10p Energy Saving Bulbs

  • They're the straight ones. These ones are really fast switch on and the light is as good as normal bulbs to my eyes - and they're the 10 year life ones so will last even longer than a standard low energy bulb.

Still plenty of both wattages & bayonette/screw available in Gravesend store.

fyi - the 11 watts are 60-watt eqivalents and the 14's are 75 watt equivalents.

Thought so - I think they are struggling to shift the low wattage ones. Most people find 11 or 14 just too dim, even once they've warmed up (or whatever the fluorescent technology equivalent is). That's why I generally only buy 18W ones now.

AND the long ones are not nice to look at and even won't fit quite a lot of light fittings.

I bet it'll be ages before we get cheap globe or spiral 18 W bulbs on offer like this.

Having said that, if they DO fit your fittings, and you don't need a great light , this is truly a bargain!

What colour temperature are the bulbs? (Would help if this kind of information was included in the first post...)
  • Hey,
    Thanks Very Much!
Poped down to my local Morrisons and there was a big red box and was down to the last 2 full rows of bulbs! The advertising wasn't very clear however there was a sign right inside the box saying it was 5 for 50p! I wonder if anyone bought 2, 3, or 4 bulbs by accident and actually pay more for it LOL!! :-)
P.S. Check the voltage ( you can get 60 watts and 75 watts) and if it fits your lamp - some have different shapes and may not fit - well you can exchange them in 28 days if you need to (which I will do!)

Hope you get yours, get to a store pronto!

  • Oh, I forgot that the store I went to was the one in Wood Green! If that's the closest one to you, it is situated near the quick express tills in a red carboard box in front of the all the light bulbs - the promotion label is not visible but it's right inside the box!

    Bye!

  • After so many bargain-bucket energy-saving bulb offers (I believe one was because a lot of those on the shelves weren't rated to last as long as the new requirement), I find it hard to believe anyone is in need of them.

Each of them last for years, regardless of whether you use them intermittently a few times per day or leave them on 24x7. Buy ten suitable output bulbs and the average household will be fine for the forseeable future. And the forseeable future includes CFL lighting being replaced by yet more efficient and longer-lasting LED lighting. There is a good reason CFL bulbs are often sold so cheaply-- despite being the best currently available domestic light-bulb, supply outstrips demand as many people still replace bulbs one by one with old tungsten filament bulbs. Having said that, those old tungsten bulbs still have their uses, such as in areas where the light is only on for less than a minute at a time and in total only a few minutes per week. Very cold or hot environments are also places where tungsten bulbs fare much better, as the ballast circuity in CFL bulbs is rather temperature sensitive and malfunctions when very cold, and the can fail completely if too hot.

Really though, they're being given away left, right and centre by various energy companies and other organisations. I've got a drawer-full of free CFL bulbs I've accquired from either the housing association, energy provider, and other one-off local offers I've yet to get around to using. I doubt I'll need to buy a need bulb before 2020 :p
  • I went to Morrisons in BATH today and they still had loads left (one almost full pallet) - both screw and bayonet, 60w and 75w.

There was no limit as to how many you buy, so I bought ten for £1 - I'll use about 3 of them and then I'll be giving the rest away to friends and family and if I have any left by Christmas they'll make good stocking fillers!!!

Great bulbs - plenty bright enough.

I got 5 for 50p. Now all my bulbs are energy saving (instead of just half).

They appear to be sponsored by EON, so thats why they are so cheap.

  • I tried in my local Harrogate Morrisons - no 39p bulbs available and they denied there was any offer on!
  • This store has the 5 for 50p offer on, bayonet & screw types & different watts. They're not beside the rest of the lightbulbs, they're in large pallets at the end aisle of the frozen foods. HTH.
