Which Banks own which others??

Just heard on TV that the £35000 limit we all talk about does not mean that we can have £35k in nat west AND £35 & in Bank of Scotland (I think it was) as one owns the other. It would be helpful to have a single list showing who owns what - can anyone help ??

  • Thanks so much for the speedy response
  • Natwest were definately mentioned as being part of Royal bank of scotland though
  • My ex-partner is in banking/finance/public accounting - I suggested Kaupthing Edge and he told me to stay well away - Icelands' economy is in a nosedive and that is why they can offer such good rates. Just proceed with caution was his advice.

RBS and NatWest belong to the same group but the two banks are registered separately within the FSCS.
"Yet if you had money in the Royal Bank of Scotland, NatWest and Tesco, which are all part of the giant RBS banking conglomerate, you would be separately protected in each of them."

It may still be worth avoiding banks in the same group in case the situation changes. For example Cheltenham & Gloucester is owned by Lloyds TSB. Until recently it was registered separately but now it isn't.

Do you want to wait 6 months to get you money, and is it covered partly by Iceland or the EU scheme so you have to apply twice, lot of hassle for extra interest
    Nothing to see here

Kaupthing is a Full member of the FSCS scheme; it is Icesave where the scenario you are talking about applies.

It is all in Martin's article:

There is enough rumour floating around already, so do us a favour & check your facts before posting.
