Staples

Bought a printer(7/9/07), which expired just prior to being 1 year old( from Staples)
Returned faulty printer to store and got customer return receipt signed by the manager( dated 6/9/07).

Staples have since told me that the printer is no longer under warranty because they have cctv footage of me returning printer on 8/9/08( ie one day outside warranty)

Have written to head office requesting explanation and the threat of small claims if no satisfactory answers.

Is now my only option small claims, how do i go about pursueing, how much does it cost?

i think the fact they have reviewed the cctv footage suggests you are going to have a battle on your hands but good luck.

How hilarious! What a ridiculous attitude for them to take. How do they explain away the receipt issue?

As will be quoted very shortly (!!!), the warranty period is only the starting point. SOGA provides for, potentially, a longer period of time.

That will depend on the price (some are very cheap these days) and also how much the op used it. Seeing the op hasn't provided any of that information no one can really give any advice apart from guesswork.

What was the date when you returned it to the store?

True but if the warranty was year anyway, there would be an expectation that it would last at least that.

Unless it was totally overused, I can't see this being an issue.

But even some £20 ones come with a one year warranty. It's more of a bonus they come with that than anything else.
  • Doesnt the sale of goods act say items should be gauranteed for a reasonable amount of time ? I had a washing maching that broke down just outside the 1 year warranty and sucessfully argued that 1 year wasnt a reasonable amount of time

You can pay hundreds of pounds for a washing machine and use it a couple of times a week. You can pay only £20 for a printer and use it daily.

A reasonable period of time depends on how much you paid and how you used the goods.

I honestly cant remember, but the date quoted on my receipt is 6//9/08.

What i am surprised is that how on earth are they to know by looking at the cctv footage that it was me who was returning the printer?? it's not as if there is a sign on my back with my mame on it:confused: .

The printer was an all in one.cost about £100.
    Just normall useage. nothing heavy.

I suspect they are lying. Why would they go to all of that effort?

Pursue it. I think you are in the right.
