Broadband for oldies!

My 84 year old mother has finally decided to move on from her Tesco dial up internet access to broadband! Hurrah! She needs a broadband provider who will give her support if needed. Can anyone suggest a reliable and reasonably cheap provider? :T

  • I was dial up with Tesco and moved to their broadband when it first arrived and apart from one initial problem have found them to be very good.

That said I haven't had to use their support number at 50p a minute but then that is a recommendation in itself icon12.gif

You could always read through the Sticky Thread "Cheapest Broadband Provider Discussion"

  • Good for her and I bet this is a question that doesn't arise too frequently!
It might be worth having a word with BT given your mum's 'life experience'. They have a good reputation for supporting people with difficulties - not that your mum's age can in any way be classed as a difficulty. Why not have a word with them, they might be eager to use her in their PR as one of their oldest broadband customers! I'm sure BT won't be the cheapest provider but may be more reliable than some others and peace of mind is worth having at any age. Good luck - Dora
  • Whatever you do don't use one with an indian call centre

If she ever has cause to worry about such things, point her in the direction of the Techie Board as the very helpful users across there will sort anything out.

  • Once she gets onto broadband I'm sure she will be a regular visitor to this site- I keep telling her how great it is!

Have a look at this deal : 2Mb for £11.98 per month, only £9.98 if you take their phone deal (this doesn't stop use of PSC's like 1899 or 18866 etc.) All reports I have seen are favourable.

  • I know it's a bit more expensive then the others recommended, but if she is new to broadband and you think that she will be needing a lot of support - have a look at Waitrose.

Calls to their support centre are free and if she calls a lot will probably make up the increase in cost of the service on the free phone calls to support she is making.
