I stopped smoking at the end of 2004 but the money I saved just dissapeared so I opened an online saver account and transfered the £135 a month I would normally have spent at the cigarette kiosk. I now have £1227.00 earning interest thank you very much. I can go online and look at it every day and it doesn't damage my health;) . I was in the coop the other day and happened to notice how much my old brand are now, I couldn't believe how much the had gone up if I still smoked I reckon it would cost me over £150 a month now:eek:Life's a beach! Hi everyone,
This is a cracking good post and I reckon the best place for it will be the "How much have you saved?" board where you'll find quite a few similar ideas and lots of inspiration, so I shall move this across for you.

My little 'treat' is that on a monday after spending the weekend with the children I go to a cafe and sit down with the newspaper, a ham roll and a frothy coffee. It costs me about £3.50 in total so I don't think it's going to break the bank plus I look forward to it all week.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

This is a good idea. Over the past few weeks I have been eating too many sweet things again, and it's not good for my pocket or waistline. So I'll join you and cut it out and watch the savings mount up. Please let's keep on posting with our progress to keep each other motivated!

I'm in on this one-a great idea OP!
I have bought a bike and now cycle the 5 mile round trip to work on 'better' days (ie cold rather than wet and when I give myself enough time in the mornings).
How much should I put in the pot on the days I go for the better option and bike it?Getting Married 19/02/110 -
Sad to think of someone going without a glass of wine after a hard day. I'm drinking a glass of homemade plum wine made with excess from a neighbour's plum tree. We buy the sugar and occasionally yeast - works out at 30p a bottle or thereabouts. It's honestly very easy as long as you keep the containers clean and use an airlock. Worth a try?0

How would you get to work if you didn't cycle? Do you take public transport? If so, work out how much your daily ticket would cost and put that in the pot. If you'd travel by car........we need a mathematician! I'm sure that someone here will be able to work out the cost per mile of travelling by car.0 -
me and DH do a weekly shop on a thursday morning, before DH is off to work, we always have a breakfast and frothy coffee after the shop, it comes to just over £5.00, but it would be much cheaper to have something at home, so i'm am going to try and give this treat up. _pale_ saving £20.00 a month.0

Don't forget that the point of giving up a small daily treat is to save towards a bigger treat that you wouldn't otherwise be able to afford! What are you all planning to save up for?0
