  • TiTherev It does occur to me that a Roomster might be outside Chris's budget. Newish model and all that.

I think so! lol. Thanks for trying though :D

My budget is not much over £3000!

I checked and the most I can get for a trade in of my current car is about £650! Less than I thought!

I didnt say he'd be able to afford it, it's just nice! I still reckon the Passat is the way forward ;)

  • According to "Whatcar" online. The Passat estate, in Chris's price range, which would be pre 2005. The against column says, "dull to drive and the styling is conservative". The saloon sounds worse.

Ti, go check the facts, you know the Civic, is a pocket rocket, it'll kick the Octavia in to touch whatever engine you drop in it and is bullet proof as far as reliability goes. VAG make some nice cars, but the Skoda isn't going to beat the Civic any day of the week. :p

Ive got an Octavia 130pd and my dad has got a petrol Civic.
Both have done 55000 miles and after having his front suspension repaired and his second set of front brake discs replaced, his gearbox has started whining.
My Skoda drives like it was brand new with no problems.
    Funny that.

Check out the January edition of Which Car too ;) Mk6 Golf beats a BMW, Audi and Civic for comfort, style and affordability once bought...
The new Golf has beaten off stiff competition from rivals to come top in a What Car? group test.

In the January 2009 issue of What Car?, the new sixth-generation Golf is tested in five-door, 2.0 TDI SE form against an Audi A3 Sportback 2.0 TDI, a BMW 118d ES and a Honda Civic 2.2 i-CTDI ES.

In the test, What Car? said it was looking for "fun yet comfortable driving manners, a classy cabin and decent practicality… low running costs are a must, too."

The new Golf equalled or bettered its rivals in every aspect of the test, earning it the kind of gushing praise that will no doubt have Wolfsburg engineers blushing.
