For something totally practical and very economical, we have a 52 reg. VW Sharan, they are a joy to drive, very comfy, with a brilliant turning circle and you can take all the back seats out and have a huge space, we've fitted a double divan in the back of ours. You wouldn't even have to fold down the pushchair to get it in the back!
We get 45 - 50 mpg from our 1.9 TDI. They are practically giving them away at the moment and you would have bags of room for any more family "additions".
Hubby's buying a Pug 306 diesel for going to work in but I'm hanging on to the Sharan, it's just too practical to get rid of - my daughter is having my Corsa as I now hate driving it because I love the Sharan.

Used to drive one of these at work. I loved it actually, but no way could I see the missus driving one! It cost a fair few quid in diesel too if I remember rightly, although 45-50 mpg is pretty good for such a big car.

That's what I thought before I got used to it - I've never had anything bigger than an escort - it's so easy to drive and park as you sit so high up - just think, no struggling to get the pram in the boot in bad weather.
We put £60 - 70 a month in diesel in it.

How many miles do you do on that? What type of driving? (lots of stopping and starting or long motorway?)

Just had a quick look on Autotrader and I can say I definitely won't be getting a VW Sharan! I'm not made of money lol.
