Ignorant Ebay newbies

I've been buying and selling on Ebay since Jun-03 - 2050 transactions, all positive feedback. This month I get my first 2 negs. One from a buyer who didn't pay after 9 days, then left me neg when I offered her another week to pay. The second one ignored my 3 reminders to pay so I left neg, she pays a few days later with no apology, then leaves me neg!

Honestly, it's enough to make me give up on Ebay. It seems to be the newbies who don't bother to learn how it all works, want something for nothing, and moan when they get neg through their own fault. I've had to leave 16 negs this past month for non-payment and non-communication.

Humph.

I think I may have put this in the wrong area - could one of the Mods move it please?

    Thanks,

  • Know how you feel, just started selling again after a break of a few months and our first sale is a non payment, and ignoring our emails. Why do people bid if they're not going to pay??????????

Exactly. We're left to relist or sell to the next highest bidder, and Ebay and Paypal are absolutely no help to anyone when we need them to intervene. It really annoys me. I've got one more auction ending in 6 days then I'm giving it up - it's not worth the hassle. I'll sell books on Amazon instead, I think - got about 5000 that need to go.

  • Agreed, ebay should give guidelines about feedback to avoid pathetic "tit for tat" negatives where one person really has done something wrong and the other leaves negative in revenge.

Even if a seller has done something wrong or an article gets broken in transit, surely the buyer should contact them and give them a chance to rectify whatever is wrong before leaping in and leaving a negative?!

I get the distinct impression that ebay does not care as long as they are making money. Even their arbitration service is outsourced - and on top you have to pay for some moron to say "well what do you think" to both sides and not actually resolve anything!! AND they don't even have the power to remove unfarily left feedback without the other person's consent!!!

    Pointless...

The only solution I can find is to add a comment below the undue negative feedback and explain what really happened. Not perfect, but better than nothing.

I got a neutral last year from a muppet who resented to me using recycled packaging to post their DVD. I couldnt retaliate because I gave her positive first. Since then I've always waited for feedback from the other party before adding mine.

Two months ago my car auction was sniped at the last minute by a bidder with nearly 100+ feedback, all 100%. He then started making all sorts of excuses (going on holiday, needs car tomorrow, before payment clears etc..) and despite my best efforts to accomodate him -- i even offered to deliver to his house after he came back from his 'holiday'. Anyway i pulled out of the deal as he simply wouldnt agree to anything.

I never left him feedback as I knew he would retaliate with a negative. My plan was to leave him a negative on the last possible day which i thought was 90 days after end of auction, but apparently its 60 days and now Ive missed that :(

AARGH! I give up on ebay :(

I used to want to preserve my 100% feedback at all costs - kind of an 'honour' thing for me as a Christian, but now I will be honest - if a transaction has been pants and the other person won't talk to me to resolve it I leave neg. I'm not doing other Ebayers any favours if I DON'T report on unsatisfactory people, I feel (and several of the people I've left negs for this month are now no longer registered on Ebay). And I always leave factual follow-up comments where I can if it's genuinely the other person's fault and/or it's since been resolved.

Don't forget that an NPB strike can do more damage than a negative to a buyer. Too many strikes in a certain period and they lose their account for good.

Also with the new feedback rules a user that gets suspended within 90 days of signing up will have all the feedback they leave removed, so that will help with a lot of newbies that run around leaving negs and not paying.

lastly, always go through the NPB process. As well as leaving a strike on the buyers account the new feedback rules which are in effect any time now, will mean that if that buyer does not respond to the nPB then any feedback rating they leave will be removed. Another benefit to sellers I think.

Hi, Do you know when this actually come into effect? Ebay are being very evasive about the actual introductory date.
I too have sold a top to a newbie(0 feedback), and she's failed to cough up. I want to neg her to warn other sellers but don't want a 'tit for tat' feedback.

it annoys me when they wont leave you feedback - someone bought a good bargain off me - brand new will and grace box set for half the price and no matter how many emails i have sent her she wont reply or leave me feedback yet she emailed me first and told me she was very happy with the item.....??

Yeah I'm waiting for feedback on about 30 items. I always leave feedback. Primarily I want them to leave it so they've confirmed they've got the item and I can delete it from my system.
