Leaving BT completely - taking Sky line rental

Has anyone here left BT completely and switched to Sky for calls and line rental? What was your experience of this? I am thinking of doing it.
My family will never get used to using override services like 18185, so I don't mind not being able to do this with Sky. I realise that Sky are more expensive for mobiles, 0870, etc, but they have offered us free line rental for 12 months and I think it might be worth it.
I'm just worried about leaving BT. At least I know BT are reliable.

Your phone line will still be supplied by BT Wholesale and serviced by BT Openreach. The difference is that you will pay your line rental direct to Sky instead of to BT Retail as you do now. If you have a fault you will report it to Sky, who will call out BT Openreach. I think this is called Wholesale Line Rental (WLR).
Basically you will just stop being a direct customer of one BT division (BT Retail)
If you want to use a broadband supplier who requires a "BT line" then you will qualify.0 -
You should still be able to use 18185 on Sky Talk via their Freephone or Geographical Access Numbers. Rates differ to indirect access via 18185.

Many of the 'line rental' providers take ages to sort out problems as they don't want to pay Open Reach to go out and have a look. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Have been with Sky for both line rental and calls now for about 6-7 months!!
Brilliant service so far... no faults or problems!
Also have been given a special offer of Sky Talk Unlimited free for 12 months..normally £5 per month!!
BEAT THAT BT!!!0 -

If the fault is with the line and nothing to do with your equipment on it you contact the people you pay line rental to, they send BT in. You do not get charged if BTs line goes faulty.0 -
I have just added Sky line rental to my Sky account. I have searched their website but I can't see anywhere that says they automatically cancel my BT line rental. Does anyone know if I need to write to BT to cancel the line rental? I don't want to be charged by both BT AND Sky. Thanks in advance for any replies.0

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

And all calls to BT are free.0
