    Quite possibly yes

Buy a decent travel insurance next time.

For what it's worth the travel insurance isn't the issue, I would only have been able to make a small claim of around £40 for a delay.

The issue of compensation is a seperate claim and something that needs to be done direct with the provider, hence my question regarding possible credit card protection.

    Thanks for your help though.

Hi rogergm, I cannot give you any constructive assistance I'm afraid, but I do sympathize with you over a 24 hour flight delay. May I ask, was this on the return flight? What assistance were you given, ie. hotel room, cost of phone calls home etc. I know that kind of stuff is not recompense but it does show that the travel company was doing its best for you.

Good luck with any claim against the holiday company but if you find you are just beating your head against a brick wall, my advice would be just to put it behind you. It makes a good tale to tell people down the pub!

Does anyone know whether I have a possible claim agaisnt my credit card provider under the consumer credit act? I have rung the CC and they have bascially said no chance, but then they would would't they.

They gave you the correct answer, you don't like it, then make your "then they would" comment.

Why on earth would there be a provision in the cca that anyone not told why they are delayed on a journey should be given the right to claim off barclaycard???

Why is everyone so agressive and quick to offer an opinion rather than fact?

The CCA offers protection for consumers and covers payments made by credit card where products or services are not as they should be, it includes a breach of contract.

If you buy something on your credit card and it's stolen, you might be able to claim the value back for example, under the protection a credit card purchase gives you. It also applies to many goods and services purchsed

Tha protection is not avaialble for cash or debit card purchases.

It really has nothing to do with not being told why we were delayed, however if you read the first reply to this thread I was asked why we were delayed, I simply responded that we were never informed, it has no relevance to my question

You asked if anyone thought you had grounds to claim off your credit card.

Even though you already did the right thing and had already gone to the horses mouth with your question.

There is nothing else we can say in answer to your question that wasn't covered by your Bank's answer:
    No chance

    Hi Patty

Yes it wasn't a pleasant experience. It was our return flight that was due to take off at 5.30am, after waiting to check in for 2 hours we were sent to a local hotel but there was no rooms avialable for us and we were left fighting over the floorspace for almost 10 hours. We were then taken back to the airport and told we were due to fly out at 6.00pm but that flight was also cancelled. it wasn't until after 10.00pm that night that we were provided with any food or drink and no reps from the holiday comapny came to see us to keep us informed.

We eventually flew home at 5.30am the following morning.

It's certainly a good tale for the pub your right there.

I have read on other websites that the banks will always try to put you off and don't always give you accurate information regarding thee matters. There was one case I read about where the level of compensation was increased by the banking ombudsman as the bank had deliberately lied to a customer about what info they required in order to uphold a claim.

If you know for a fact that I don't have a claim then I'm happy to take that on board but sadly this forum seems to have been hijacked by people who prefer to disrupt genuine attempts for help and advice.

You don't seem too keen to accept any advice from here, nor to accept the answer your Bank gave you.

Why not go and ask your local CAB?
  • I am reluctant to take the bank at face value I admit that openly.

I have used this website many times and found it very useful, however this is the first time I have ever used the forums and I think I may have misunderstood what they are here for.

Lots of opinions, wind ups and people ticking thanks boxes for each other, very little considered genuine advice.

The CAB is a good idea though, thank you.
