Holiday compensation advice

To quote a much loved member of the MSE forums.."Demand Compensation!"
What sort of compensation do you think you were entitled to? Can you put a figure on your inconvenience? Why did you not buy decent insurance that covered you for travel delay? That's what it's there for. You havnt said if you got your phone call, email or fax allowance, did you not get a letter from the airline on disembarking/boarding to send to your insurance company?
Airlines dont compensate for delays other than to give you the bare minimum required by law. You have to mark this one up to experience and dont scrimp on insurance. Sorry if that isnt what you wanted to hear, but if airlines gave everyone compensation every time there was a 24 hour delay they would be going bust faster than you can say "XL". Chalk it up and move on, and maybe next time consider a cruise. (see, I can do sarcasm too)0 -

We were not given any forms or information letters, no hotel accomodation was provided and it wasn't until 15 hours afer the original flight was due to take off that we were provided with any refreshments.
Thats the basis for our complaint and why I hoped that there may be a possible claim under breach of contract s i know there are rules and regulations regarding delays.
The travel insurance would only have provided a £40 payment for the delay, it wouldn't have provided any compensation for the fact we were treated like animals for the entire duration of the delay, thats what we are hoping to claim compensation for.0 -
So the £40 would not cover the amount of compo you want? How much do you want?
I'm sorry to say that in my long experience, if you fly cattle class, you will get treated like cattle.
I seriously suggest you move on from this. You are on a hiding to nothing, unless you like collecting general apology letters from random Customer Relations departments.0 -
I'm reasonably confident i will get some form of compensation, I think it's a shame people are prepared to accept being treated like animals and just put it down to the fact we haven't paid enough.
I've flown 'cattle class' on every foreign holiday I have ever been on and this is only the 2nd time I have experienced any problems. If somethng goes wrong then you put it right, our treatment was inexcusable.
The only other problems I have had was 5 years ago when BA lost my luggage en route to a holiday, they managed to get it to me 5 days later and gave me the usual speil of holiday insurance etc etc. I persisted and managed to get almost £400 from them in compensation.
I'm determined enough to not be dissuaded from persuing my claim, I just wish I could get some accurate info on the consumer credit act angle.0 -
Info is: Your credit card company cannot be held responsible for your flight delay.
You seem determined you will get a small fortune back for your discomfort so I suggest you stop posting and get writing. Or even speak to Ros Fernihough. She works on a no-win no fee basis on travel cases and I'm sure her office will put you straight about having a case or not.
Again, I'm sorry you havent had the answer you wanted, or the sympathy, but sometimes *hit happens and you just have to roll with it.0
