Music Magpie: new quick way to sell unwanted CDs

I was going to do it, especially when I was getting £3 for one of them. I was curious to see what sort of price they would be selling it for and was quite surprised to see it for sale at £18.99. needless to say I decided against it.
Yes, but that item will probably be there languishing for ages. I have been trying to shift my unwanted CDs for months on Play etc and if people aren't buying, and I really need the money, of course I'm going to go this route. I need cash and I need space. If youre not desparate, then do use Amazon, eBay or Play instead though.0 -
I am definitely going to give this a try, it is such a hassle listing on ebay or amazon then hardly ever getting a buyer, have given loads away to charity shops as can't even seem to sell them at car boots!0

now on 6th page and seems only one person had cheque from them, has anyone else been paid yet??
picked 10 random cds from my collection just now and only one was recognised :-( , and the one that was recognised was not being bought at the moment, not sure if that says more about them or my musical tastes
also had a quick look around their sales site but could not see any delivery charges, anyone know what they charge for sales0 -

Ha, well, I got 50p for Mike Flowers Pops (Wonderwall) and Aqua (Barbie Girl) so taste doesnt seem to matter.0 -

Luke, I take it these are for the singles?
On another note, does anyone know of a similar deal for DVDs? Have loads on play with no luck, and now really need the space!

Mmm, I've tried putting various CD barcodes into the site but it doesn't regocnise any of them. It does say that the list is limited by their database so I tried disks I reckoned would be fairly common, but stll no joy. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?0

My CDs have been sent so I'll see what happens0

Another idea no one has mentioned yet - if you have a large collection that you would like to part with, contact a record dealer through the specialist Record Collector magazine. If you think you have some valuable stuff, especially on vinyl, then I suggest you grab a copy of that magazine, order the Rare Record guide book - the bible for collectors and sellers, and get in touch with someone who runs one of the many record fairs that take place regularly around the country - you can set up a stall with them for anywhere between £30 and £90 for the day depending on the size and scale of the fair. I had a collection of around 1500 vinyl albums, 800 Cd's and 300 tapes... I've whittled them down to a core collection I won't part with, have done a double stall at Brighton's record fair 5 times over the last year, and made around £1800 profit, after paying for the stalls, plastic bags, polythene covers for the records. If you're a newbie to it and have a good collection, the dealers will pounce and nab the good stuff right away - first time I did it I'd sold £400 worth before the public were let in! The only thing I'll say in warning - your albums / CD's etc must be in good condition - if they are Mint - ie unplayed, or near enough, great, you'll get good prices, anything less and the value starts to drop quickly - the mag and book have a ready reckoner guide to how that works and is useful for valueing your stuff.
PS - the tapes.... couldn't get rid of them - even at 50p a time - ended up giving them to a charity shop.Debt problems? It's never too late to get help - just ask the friendly folk on this forum! :grouphug:0 -
I have done this - about 50 CDs, I got about 80 quid. They were all accepted and the cheque arrived promptly. (That said, I haven't actually cashed it yet, but I'm pretty sure it's legit.) I would do it again, though it kind of breaks my heart to see my much-loved CDs being horribly undervalued. But eBay is hopeless for selling them now, even rarer ones, and MM is much less hassle.0

Ditto. I am waiting for my first cheque but they accepted all my CDs and I have just prepared another batch for them.0
