E7 opinions

I am tempted by the 2Mbps 12 months -120 pounds offer by E7 broadband.

Given I read their name here, could you comment on them?
I am not particularly interested in speed, but more in reliability (i.e. being able to be online all the time even slow).

I've been with them for around 6 months - last 2 months has been pretty slow for broadband at weekends and some evenings (around 400kb from a 1mb line) but has been pretty reliable.
  • I've been with them for 15 months and in that time have had 2 real outages - a few hours each. These were caused by BT, but e7 recompensed me with 2 weeks and 1 week respectively extra service which was great.Speed had been great generally though I hear that some gamers complain.
I have used nuria to measure speed - It takes samples througout the day of real access to websites and it compares them with the speeds it m,easures for other users with other isps. It measures surfing, upload, download, and gaming.
On all of these my connection is better than the average (by some way too).

They have had some problems recently in some areas but seem to have cured these with new equipment (apparently).

  • Mike obviously has a better connection than I have.

Using the Nuria programme I achieve 3.1 surfspeed compared with other users with a similar connection who get 5 points
With download speeds I get 6.5 which others get 7.7.
Upload speed is about the same at 6.3 against 6.5
Gaming speed, which is irrelevant to me comes out at 1.7 against 3.2

I signed up for an extended period and wouldn't recommend anyone to follow my example but will not be changing as it's good enough for my purposes but I do notice when E7 is working properly as it then seems to fly rather than it's usual crawl.

I have tried to put an image of my Nuria screen but for some reason it doesn't work. I have put it here instead.

Basically my speeds calculated over the last 6 weeks or so are:

6 Surfspeed - Average of all isps is 5
    8.6 download - average is 7.7
    7.8 upload - average is 6.5
    3.3 gaming - average is 3.2

As you can see this is excellent !

I know that the line quality and distance from the exchange can affect you and give lower connection speeds so perhaps this is the cause of your troubles. (though I am not particularly close to the exchange and my phone line is generally noisy)

Have a look HERE at the E7even forum on ADSLGuide to get an idea of whats going on with this ISP at the moment.

  • Oh yes the same few people repeatedly posting that they cannot play games.
My advice - if gaming is what you like then go elsewhere as it seems that at the moment e7 is not good for that (dependant on where you live).

All I can say is that I have great speed and service as documented above.

I am more than satisfied and as I run my business using e7 daily it is a little bit more critical for methan it is for those gamers.

Any other users out there care to test their speed with Nuria and post their findings ?

Mike - anyone who reads these posts knows you are a big fan of E7 (hence your referral code on the referrers board. I have considered signing up with them myself for the very attractive prices, BUT you can't get away from the fact that they have been getting loads of bad comments lately, here and on other threads : http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=106560 also on adsl.org forums. OK it may be mostly gamers complainng on the adsl.org but not all and anyway E7 doesn't say - "please don't sign up with us if you do a lot of gaming" They do say unlimited download and offer good speeds, which obviously they are not keeping to. Congestion at peak times means they are overloaded, so why are they still having special offers to attract new customers ?

If THESE figures are correct. E7Even may be heading for bigger trouble than they already have.
