    Quick question,

I'm making a veg soup to go in the freezer using the odds and ends of veg I can't use for anything else.

I'm shoving in the outer leaves of my cabbage, and the odds and ends of carrots, green bit of the leek and so on, but I was wondering about my broad bean pods - they're not young beans, but also not very old.

do you think I could shove these in?

I do already throw in my normal pea pods.

I think you can eat the pods for young beans so i don't think they would be toxic?

    the soup will be liquidised.

    Hi dibblersan,

I have used the pods from broad beans to make stock for soup before but never actually used them in the soup. So basically I don't know the answer :o I think the furry bit inside might be difficult to digest, but they definitely aren't toxic....well at least I am still living to tell the tale. :)

Well, I've thrown a couple in and will report back. If nothing else, I'm sure the fibre will be good for me :p

    EDIT:

was tasty but fibrous. the whole soup was very green and tasted very green but nice in the hot weather.

Any bright ideas for what to do with half a small white cabbage and 1/4 of a red cabbage which have been in the fridge for ages.

I wondered about making soup but I've never tried it before - what else would I need to add? Presumably if I add the red cabbage I will have purple soup!! Also have about half a swede and some dried-out spring onions if that helps...

I put some of the red, cut up very small, in my potato-topped minced beef last night and it was maybe a bit chewy :o but not bad.

quintwins - I'm not that keen on the stuff myself, but spinach and soft cheese lasagne is quite nice. If you don't have any lasagne sheets it would work layered up with normal pasta, I'm sure.

I make a pasta & spinach thing that hubby is quite keen on if that's any help?

fry finely chopped onion in butter until very soft & turning golden.Add fat clove crushed garlic, 1/2 teaspoon chilli flakes & cook for a further minute. Add s&p, and 3 knobs of the frozen spinach (previously defrosted & chopped), and teaspoon sugar.Stir through juice of one lemon, the pasta (for 2 people), and about 4 tablespoons freshly grated parmesan

Does anyone know if you can fondant ice a lemon drizzle cake? I'm a bit worried that the syrup will start to dissolve the fondant!
