scrape it off gently with your fingernail / plastic or wooden spatula, then squeeze on some washing up liquid and wipe with a very hot cloth?
Thanks for that.
The candlewax is fine drops spread over half of the hob.
Tough and long job scraping with a nail.
Just thought I would ask for a more simple and effective way to clean it.0 -

Actually, if it was my hob, I'd probably squirt some washing up liquid onto my Wash Up Wiz, wipe that across and then rinse with very hot cloth.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Thanks.
How about using a hairdryer to soften the wax. It should then wipe off0 -
Well, I never knew that about pineapple, so it's not silly at all.
And I don't know if the fruit would retain its shape, BUT it would both defrost and help the jelly set quicker, as far as my limited memory of physics experiments goes ...
I also remember that if Mum had forgotten to make the jelly in time, she would melt the jelly cubes in as little boiling water as she could get away with, and then add ice cubes to cool it and set it quickly. Of course, she had to stir vigorously to melt the ice cubes, because otherwise you might have had lumps of jelly around lumps of water, but the ice cubes would definitely have melted eventually.
BTW, if you have a child with an enquiring mind, this would be a most entertaining experiment, so if you don't but someone else does, maybe we could have the results! :rotfl:
Well - I've just made it. First notes to be made are that there are lots of tiny bubbles in the jelly  I've no idea why, and secondly that the jelly is definitely going to set.
However, I'm not convinced that the fruit is going to defrost if the jelly is put in the fridge. It would take a long time to defrost if simply put in a dish in the fridge on it's own - but suspended in jelly? hmmm
I've decided to leave it on my kitchen worktop to set. I have no heating on, but room temperature is warmer than the fridge and am thinking it might aid the fruit to defrost within the jelly. Even then, looking at it in the glass dish, I'm still not convinced it will be able to defrost.
I'm beginning to wonder why I bothered! :rotfl:Aug11 £193.29/£240

do you have a steamer? you could steam it off or you could put a damp cloth over it and use the steam function on your iron and then wipe it up with the cloth before it gets chance to go hard again, that might take ages thoDEC GC £463.67/£450

I've been told that you shouldn't eat more than 2 of these a day due to them containing cyanide.
As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the Quick Q thread:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Just a quick update....it worked perfectly :j
Left them at room temperature for about 3 hours, then popped them in the fridge, and the fruit did retain their shape and they did defrost - result!Aug11 £193.29/£240

Hurray!
Now, did you try the frozen pineapple? My guess was that frozen fresh pineapple would behave the same as fresh, not tinned. I'm thinking that the pineapple enzyme that stops the jelly setting is destroyed by the heat of the canning process, but this of course wouldn't happen when freezing. However, maybe the extreme cold of the freezing could also prevent the enzyme working, so frozen-from-fresh would work?
Now I've over-thought this and confused myself, and am doubting whether it is an enzyme at all. Anyone tried this? I really want to know now!
