Right. That's it. How do you lot make oven chips out of actual potatoes? I can't seem to get mine to go right.0

Yes, I did - and it was quite a while ago.
Hmmm. I've asked this kind of question about freshly cooked spuds left out overnight, and got a chorus of "go ahead and chomp on them" in about half an hour. I know the boards are quiet at the moment, but this is a cautious response. Thank you, CupofChai (and I love the name!).Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Hi
I cut up the potatoes, in not too small chip pieces (seem better if they are more chunky)
Boil them for 5 mins, drain, tip back in pan, add a little olive oil and toss. tip them out on large tray and bake on about 225 and just keep checking them (i have to move them around as my oven cooks the outside one 1st)
I found if the heat is too low they dont cook as well.

Dear Old Stylers,
I have been given a Seiko watch by my Dad but the battery has gone and try as I might I cannot unscrew the back as it requires a special opener (Screwdrivers, chisels, etc have been tried but failed dangerously, it has 6 notches on the back for receiving a tool). I have found a battery for £1.99
So my question is how can I get the back off without buying a special tool or going to a £££ jeweller?
Thanks

Please can someone help me with a vinegar question?
I would like to make a cake which calls for white vinegar (American recipe?)
Is this refering to the same white vinegar MS Old Style use for cleaning and is that (if I buy from Mr T) Sarsons distilled Malt Vinegar (79p) OR Mr T Distilled Vinegar (55p) or neither of these....?
I am very confused....! Many thanks!
Sorry to bump but please can anyone help?
Thanks!Official DFW Member 716 - Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
One option might be to see if there's someone on a local market stall doing this kind of work. There's an old guy on our market who does watch batteries, engraves pet discs, mends & fits watch straps, etc. I can't
remember what I last paid him when I went for a new battery to be fitted & a new strap but it really was only a very small reasonable amount. Just a thought.2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

I have been inspired to think again (actually just I am just stubborn) and I have spent the last hour going though my tool box to find something to do the job...
I have managed to remove the screw back using a pair of snipe nose pliers in two of the slots. They are old and stiff and this is actually an advantage as they stayed to the correct width by themselves! I have no vice (apart from booze, poor pun sorry) so it was quite difficult to hold but I didn't stab myself and didn't draw blood... Let's hope I can get it back on again and make it watertight!
Other thing to note is tiny writing in the back which states: after installing a new battery, short something and something - which resets it. Need to find the magnifying glass now.
Glad I am time rich, though money poor to go on this watch repairing adventure!
