Apologies first of all if this is in the wrong place, I wasn't sure whether it belonged on the slow cooker or pulses thread or here!

I am planning on doing a sausage and bean casserole/stew in my slow cooker this weekend, but I will be using dried cannellini beans. I understand I must soak them beforehand, but the bag says they then need boiling for x amount of time. Is this still the case if they're going in the slow cooker? Or am I ok to soak them and then chuck them straight in the slow cooker as it will be on for a long time?

    Hi Freaky

I would pre soak and boil them - for sure. There is an older thread - pulses/lentils in slow cooker :) The thread suggests you don't need to soak them but i do! Zip

I would soak and boil as per the instructions on the bag. Better to be safe than sorry.

I've got a saucepan with 2 steamers on the top which I use for veg
but wanted to know if anyone has used it to cook pasta? I mean in one of the steamer bits rather than in water in the pan :)

I've never done it but I suspect that trying to steam pasta would mean that it would all stick together in a big nasty lump

I don't really think it would work well - clumping together as suggested earlier., but see here.
There's absolutely nothing to stop you cooking the pasta in the bottom pan and steaming your veggies on top though, loads of people put their veg in the water with the pasta (or boiled egg pan for that matter)

    It's only a game
