Well, it may not be a quick question, but it is covering pretty much everything - shopping, cooking, preparing, knowing what you're eating etc.

Your 'problem' is that you don't have a lot of choice for shopping, it seems, so no chance to pick up 'whoopsies' and put them in the freezer. That's the ONLY way I ever buy beef, for example.

However, it might be worth having a really good look round to see if you can get meat at a better price. If you've got a slow cooker (and are organised enough to use it) you don't have to buy top quality braising beef, the cheaper cuts will work just as well.

I agree that you can't put frozen veg in the slow cooker at the same time as your meat. But you can add them at the end, just don't ask me how long for.

And is there anywhere you can order a veg box from? It might not be cheap, but it would get you a good variety.

I'm not the greatest cooker from scratch, or menu planner, but my compromise is to do a roast on a Sunday, which usually leaves us meat for one or two meals at the start of the following week. These tend to be of the 'throw it all in together' variety.

And bulking out the meat with chickpeas, lentils etc is a good way to go if you have someone with hollow legs in the family.

help ...i have just cooked up a batch of sweet chilli sauce that entailed a HUGE amount of garlic and chillies being 'whizzed' up in my food processor....

now i want to make crumble for the first rhubarb crumble of the season.....soooooo before i ruin some expensive ingredients i want to know...

even though i have cleaned out the processor and it does not smell of chilli/garlic is there still a chance of it tainting my crumble(can't crumble by hand as i really don't like the feel of 'stuff' on my hands , also doing loads so i have some to give away to my elderly neighbours)...

No idea, but I would try 'whizzing' some warm water and see if any 'bits' surface.

Hi to all you OS'ers, I need to pick your brains please - am planning on making Twinks Hobnobs today, but need to know if I can use oats so simple original as the porridge oats? Sorry to be so daft but not sure if they are the same thing? I also have a box of supermarket own make ready oats?

    Thanks in anticipation

Um, hate to be annoying but no, I don't think those will work. I'm not sure what you mean by ready oats but think it needs to be actual porridge oats to work properly
Someone made twinks on Weezl's thread with a similar oat and apparently they didn't really work very well.

The Oats So Simple will have sugar and other 'stuff' added, also I think they'd be milled very fine so I would use 'normal' oats too.

Thanks for the replies both - the oats so simple is ground really fine, so will need to wait till I go shopping tomo and buy porridge oats, the budget means they'll have to be tesco value ones tho!

Is there anything added to the supermarket ready oats? If not, you could try them, but if they are also ground very fine then the texture will be different.

Oats is oats baby! That's what I use - value :)

I agree, don't think the boxed ones would work.
