Silly question time... how do i know which of my pots and lids can go in the oven? A certain recipe for pilau rice is asking me to do that, but it seems preferable not to disturb the rice mid cook..... Just don't put pots in the oven, seems wrong !A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I tend to figure that, unless the label specifically says that the pot is oven-proof, it probably isn't. You can buy oven-proof lidded frying pans but they tend to be the more expensive ones, and anyway I find most things are quite happy being transferred from a pan to an oven dish. Getting a pan that can do both is on my "one day" list!Back after a very long break!0

I have one of those orange cast iron casserole dishes, the sort you can't lift, and a massive stainless steel one, and tend to use one of them when a lid is required for transfer from stove top to oven, but I also have a super Corning ware casserole which can go on the stove top as well as in the oven. My mum used to have a set of saucepans made from that stuff, they had a removable handle, they were fab! You couldn't get the stuff for ages but I have seen it in the shops in the last few years.
BTW, if it's just the lid you're worried about, you can always cover with a double layer of foil.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Thanks Sue - it never occurred to me to put the pot in the oven with tinfoil! I just have never thought about doing it,and couldn't imagine what the problem might be or why you might not be able to put pots in the oven!
Great, I am sorted and really excited about making my pilau rice:j
For some reason it says to only reheat the rice up to 24hrs after - but personally i would normally keep rice for 2 days in the fridge (used to be 3-4 until I read on here how bad that was!). I wonder if they are just being cautious with rice? I am making it today to be consumed tomorrow.
Sian - do you have a link to the costume you are trying to create? I've googled but going round in circles and don't know if am looking at the right thing!
Edit - ha ha watch the wee banana man dance! I'm hypnotised!A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

That bananaman is great!
Thanks for looking for me; this is the picture from the original book and I am looking to make an adult version of this
He gets grubbier over the course of the film so the colour isn't so important. I can't see how I could make it without some significant stress on me, I am not good at sewing at all. Best bet would be to get an all in one and customise it. Or
I was thinking of a hooded dressing gown and not worrying about the feet but can’t find one of them at a reasonable price. There are some ‘onesies’ online but to get one with a hood and ears is about £60! eek
Thanks for your help!God is good, all the time

Right, i have made cossies in the past, so at a quick look here's what I would do .... And i am no expert sewer by the way, i just make it up as i go along.
Ebay or second hand shop for a white/grey hoody - mans or womans - long as it fits it doesn't matter:D. You should be able to pick one up second hand for a couple of pounds. Very Worst case scenario, buy a brand new one here = cost £11
Bottoms - trackies or PJ bottoms in a similar matching colour. Second hand = dirt cheap
Or if you can find a second hand tracksuit with a hood.
Ears - little triangles of fabric - maybe seconds from a haberdashery? Stuff them with scrunches up paper or something enough to stuff them and make them stand up. Sew on hoody hood
Tail - an old pair of tights stuffed with newspaper or material or something. Secure at the top. I would then attach some fake fur - ebay.
If you wrap the fake fur around the tights like a sausage and secure with a basic stitch , then sew the tail on the trackies or pj bottoms.
SHoes - i wouldn't worry about - but you could make some sort of shoe covering to make it look like feet?
Whiskers - I would experiment - instinct says to try using the stuff you have inside a pipe cleaner , or some crafting wire or something. Two whiskers each side is enough - depending on what you use, affects how you would secure them. Hard to know until i tried as it depends on the weight of the whisker? You might need to secure in two places .....
Anyway, that's something what I would do or how I would start out anyway.
As he gets grubbier through the film , you could always have your friend pre roll around in the grass in the cossie, to get it more realistic? Again, that's what I would do!
You could also sew buttons down the centre of the hoody to make it look more like a the character?
not sure how much help that is, but am thinking on my feet here. I managed to make a Xena costume out of an old PVC long skirt. £30 ? I wouldn't even go near spending that much on it to be honest!A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
