HELP ! Got seville oranges, sugar, time, pans, jars but no muslin. Need to make the marmalade today - could I tie the pips and pith up in the VERY CLEAN foot of an old pair of tights ? Or would the nylon melt, the colour run, or something hideous like that ???????0

I think I'd rather use a spotlessly clean men's hanky or a piece of an old (but clean) teatowel. Old pillowcase? Piece of odd fabric lying around?
Might be just ME being odd, but I think I'd rather try anything else other than the foot from a pair of tights.0 -
I bought some french toast/waffles when I was in France last year and still have 8 left. Can anyone think of something exciting to do with them? They're covered in icing sugar (thin layer) and I have just eaten the other ones as they come. I haven't really got a sweet tooth so not sure why I really bought them
If not, do you think they'd freeze for use at a later date?

Just a quickie - I've never been one for bulking out mince in a big way so am not used to what constitutes the optimum proportion of "bulking agent" to mince. However I have an 800g pack of mince in the freezer and my usual recipe requires 1kg.
I have red and green lentils and I have porridge oats.
In words of one syllable please (;)) how much of any of the above bulking ingredients (and if applicable, how much extra water) would I need to add to my 800g of mince to make it up to the equivalent of 1kg?
ThanksOperation Get in Shape

Hmmm - tricky! Personally - what I do is use as much mince and veg as i think i will need, then add liquid etc as normal, and throw lentils in by the handful. SO i would start with 3 handfuls , let them cook , skim the scum (good name for a band), and then wait and check the consistency once they are cooked . Then I add more as I go - again by handful . This works for me as I don't like a big lentil texure - once you add too many you can't take them out - bit like seasoning.
Not sure if that helps - for me using 2lb mince and potatoes carrots and onions and lentils - i would make a stew of 12 portions - each portion being 3 ladels full.
Does any of this help? :rotfl::AA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I've got king prawns currently defrosting in the fridge ready to make a curry with rice for tea using a portion of curry from the chippy. I wanted to add veg to bulk it out. What would you suggest? I have in the freezer diced onion, sweetcorn, sprouts, peas, baby carrots, cabbage mix, sliced mushrooms. Anything else I can always pick up from the Co-op on the way to/from the school run
ETA: I want to add some coconut milk to it so I can cool it down for DD who finds it too spicy. How much should I add?Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -

I think any of those veg would be good (except possibly the sprouts - I'm not sure how good they'd taste in curry sauce), so I'd say go for whatever combination you fancy - or even some of everything and make it a prawn and mixed veg curry.
For the coconut milk, I think the only way is to add a splosh at a time until it tastes right. Coconut milk is lovely with prawns (imo), so if you add a bit too much it won't be a problem.
