    Hello all.

I took some sausages out the freezer Monday night, and forgot about them. Will they be safe to eat this evening?

Have they been in the fridge all this time? If so then, as long as they look and smell OK, I'd probably go for it if it was me, although I probably wouldn't leave them any longer than today. If they've been anywhere warmer than the fridge, though, it's probably a bit risky, and I'd say don't!

    HTH. :)

Thanks for responding. They look fine, so I'll just cook them thoroughly. :D

We ate them last night, and we're still here. So thanks again. I hate wasting food. :D

I'm glad they were OK - I always worry a bit when responding to this sort of question in case I end up being responsible for someone poisoning themselves! :o

'' Hi everyone, can anyone help me with a cheap, easy and freezable Cheese Straws recipe? I want to make loads for the freezer this Christmas as I have to feed 8 people for 3 days.... Any other thrifty, make ahead Christmas ideas/recipes also much appreciated''

Haven't done this myself, but recipe is from my foolproof Be-Ro Home Recipe Book:

    Makes 50

    4oz (100g) Self Raising Flour
    pinch salt
    pinch mustard powder
    2oz (50g) marg
3oz (75g) mature cheddar or red leicester cheese, grated
    1 medium egg, beaten

    heat oven to 180 C
    grease baking tray
mix together flour, salt and mustard. Rub in the marg

stir in the cheese and add sufficient egg to make a stiff dough

roll out very thinly and cut into strips.

    bake for 10-15 mins
:p Busy working Mum of 3

I mislaid my old Be-Ro book, so thanks. I must get another one.
  • I intend to put 6 leeks, 1 potato, 1 onion and 1 broccoli head in a pot with some Oxo chicken stock and cook it in my Rayburn on 120 degrees for about 3 hours, to make some soup. I have 2 questions;

1 How much stock should I put in?

2 Can I add a tub of plain cottage cheese to make it creamy? If so, when do I add it; before it goes in the oven or when I take it out and before I shzuzz it with the blender?

Thank you for any advice
  • Thanks very much Zippybungle.

I've bought a large jar of pickled chilli peppers from the 99p shop.

It states "Once opened consume within 14 days". Short of having them with every meal (including breakfast) there is no way I'm going to get through the whole jar in 2 weeks!

I thought the idea of pickling stuff was so that you didn't have to eat it in a short timespan. Is that not the case?

    Thanks.

Has anybody got a breadsticks recipe. Since getting a breadmaker I always make my own bread, but have up till now kept buying these for my little boy. They cost almost as much as a bag of strong flour.

I would welcome any recipes, hints, tips, etc.
