Thanks, Penny - that's worth knowing. I've got a load of green tomatoes on my windowsill at the moment - I'm hoping I can get most of them ripe but it's nice to know I can still eat them even if they don't quite get there.

My toms didn't ripen last year but I put them into a brown paper bag with a banana and they went red in no time :)

Bananas ripen everything! I do that with really hard pears - just put them in the banana b owl and couple of days later fresh and juicy to eat:beer:

I'll be trying that over the weekend. I've been hoping the toms will ripen without help as they're in the warmest, sunniest room in the flat (my bedroom, unfortunately - they look rather odd lined up on the windowsill in there!), but it's not really working.

    Banana it is, I think.
Back after a very long break!

Turkey pie is in fridge waiting to go into oven, I've adapted the recipe slightly and put the gravy in with the filling, would you make a slit in the top to let steam escape or not. I should know this but its a long time since I made this type of pie.:o

Its the co-ops fault they had some turkey breast fillets reduced.
Woofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw

apologises for spelling mistakes - google toolbar and I have had a hissy fit and I've lost me spell checker.

I tend to make a slit in the top of all pies so that the pastry doesn't go all soggy. It sounds yummy what you've made  :T

I froze some last time I had a baking session, as I had quite a bit left over too.
I haven't used it up yet.

right, am making chicken pie for tuesday for birthday dinner. I have two whole chickens one for freezer one for this - or however much i need of it.

Anyway if i cook the chicken then it cools then heat it up while making the pie contents, then it will be heated 3 times which is too much. So was going to cook the two chickens tomorrow together in the oven, prep the pie tomorrow night straight after so the chicken is put in warm, then leave the pie in the fridge to be eaten on Tuesday.

Storage wise is this ok? Or I can cook one chicken on monday all day in the slow cooker then use it monday night so it's fresher? Never used SC for chicken you see but don't know if this is the occasion to try it!

I know there wont be any leftovers so it wont then be heated again if that makes sense.

    Does this make sense?

Thought I was being clever making a fish pie by poaching the fish in a combination of some wine and milk. However, just discovered wine + milk = curdled mess. Can i save it?
