My tally for the year is LOADS out and not much in!

Thanks to all for being the inspiration and for keeping the support going.

I've cleared 4 double shelves of books, scanned in thousands of photos (some then binned some sent to a military museum), scanned in university documents, scanned in old and much loved cards, given away unwanted stuff (wii, TENS machine, DS, crockery, laptop etc) and found the love of space.

May it and you all continue in 2009 cos I've still got stuff I have to let go of. Third time round it may happen!
  • Hi

I thought I'd join this thread because I have so much stuff it scares me. I can't have people round because my house is always messy even though it's clean. I have tons of books/cds/memories of holidays/scrapbooks etc. I recently sold a lot of cds and made almost £200 and have donated lots of duplicate kitchen stuff to charity. It's driving me crazy and now I'm at home full time I really need to get my life in order to figure out what's important to me and what's not and can go.

This is my plan for 2009, I have so much rubbish/tat/stuff everywhere that it is making my life a nightmare. I am going to eBay vast quantities of it and give the rest to charity shops. It's all to do with simplifying my life, I don't need or want this stuff so why do I still have it?! :)

I just hope I have the motivation to tackle the hige piles of tat lol!

I have finally taken the 4 huge bags of clothes to the Charity Shop, where they do gift aid so they gain more than just the sale price, these were sat in my spare bedroom for months.

We have been breaking up the family home so I have gained a lot of stuff like photos and family history related documents but I bought a scanner to copy them so I can share the originals out amongst my siblings. I have also acquired some ornaments and pictures etc but have been ruthless with what I have taken home, only beautiful stuff allowed.

I have two washers now as Mum's was newer and does a quick wash which mine doesn't will free-cycle the spare ASAP, it's currently in the garage.

Still got 2 big bags of shoes to get rid of and lots of other stuff including mountains of books, will keep plugging away.

    Hardly dare show my face..............
After doing well with de-cluttering last year I've bit by bit, cluttered up again:eek:
So,with the help of ex foster lad (always keen to have some of my rubbish) come New Year -or maybe before - I'll start again this time being a lot more thorough.............I've a blanket so box full of 'stuff' I'd even forgotten what was in there !! I have been good with the book case though and not added to it without taking one or two items out. No books for christmas pressies this year so that can stay the same.
Endless family history files and files full of history stuff about where I was born with a pile of info waiting to be added to them. Can't get to them at the minute due to 'stuff' in the way that I had to move to put xmas decorations up. But, empty blanket box and it can all go in there ! Then I can sort out history papers.
Photo albums are on my list...........been aquiring some nice decorative ones the intention being that I can arrange photos in some sort of order.......grandchildren, my kids, etc. Nice winter chore I thought.
Card making drawer needs a clear out but thankfully neighbours daughter is always keen so have some of my throw outs..............
So, I've got a sort of list for de-cluttering -just need to make a start but think with someone else giving me a hand I'll get there - again - and maybe this time I won't need to do it all over again next year:rotfl:

So you scan things onto the computer then get rid of the originals? And University documents, if you ever need them again is a copy off the computer sufficient? Would you not need the original?

I really like the idea of this but I would need to learn how to back everything up somehow incase my laptop broke? Can you tell I'm not very techie :o

I am on a mission to declutter in 2009 and if I got my head around this scanning and what I should/can scan then that would be a great start :D
