:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: easy to solve that problem then, simply eBay the whole house, buyer to remove, postage a bit excessive:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:;)

    believe me its tempting

I've just rediscovered this thread and, goodness, do I need it. We decluttered masses during our house move this summer but I still have loads of stuff to throw away/recycle/donate/sell. I'm not going to list things 'in' because we are really only buying the absolute necessities atm, so I'm going to try to focus on celebrating the 'outs'. :D

    And today that has meant:
:jTwo large and one small bin bags of rubbish.
:jOne recycling box full of cardboard
:jOne recycling box full of paper

  • I've been promising myself for years I would turn my junk room back into a bedroom - and maybe an office - but I've just got a mental block about sorting out the rubbish on the floor, on the bed, under the bed, in the filing cabinet, in the wardrobe etc. I'd welcome thoughts on how to get started, and how to see it through to the end. What methods, rules, tips etc do you use? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the world of decluttering  Sort things into three piles - keep (only if you are sure you will use it), ebay /charity shop / freecycle, and bin. Do a little bit at a time or you will be overfaced.

Mind you, I started the original thread, and don't seem to be getting anywhere, so maybe you should ignore my advice and wait for the successful declutterers to come along :rotfl:

I'd recommend reading through this article on Organizedhome : http://organizedhome.com/declutter-101-cut-clutter-at-home The guidance there has helped me downsize from a 3bed house filled with babystuff to a much smaller 2 bed house without any regrets as to getting rid of stuff as soon as my daughter outgrew it. :D Result? When my ex left I was able to put my hands on every item belonging to him and box it up within 24 hours of him going. ;) If he'd left while in our old house I would never have been able to due to the amount of stuff we had :o

Good luck - it will so be worth it in the end :D

MissWouldbetidy - when you clear an area, resolve to keep it clear and check it daily if it's a hotspot which accumulates junk. Do one area at a time - fully - don't tackle too large an area at one go, or you'll end up overwhelmed. Do something like one drawer or the top of a desk. Finish it and then move on :-)

I've not been on this thread for aaaaages! We're starting our bedrom after christmas so need to have it emptied and ready to strip, replaster and finish. Sounds easy doesn't it?! We have a large cupboard in our hallway that was full up with junk. We emptied that out at the weekend and I took most of it to the tip. I still have a lot of stuff in the car to go. Under our bed is now clear. I have put an underbed storage box in DD's bedroom for her to keep her shoes in. I have cleared 3 large boxes of linen from my cupboard. I have kept the boxes for our cothes to go into when we get rid of our wardrobe.
I will try to remember to post back often with my progress.
I apologise for any missing letters/ spaces. I keep re-reading and checking but the compter keeps missing- I'm geting tons of pop ups and they are driving me mental!
