  • I've been doing some serious decluttering throughout the summer. I spent a lot of time reading this forum beforehand for inspiration. Sold a lot of stuff on Ebay and Amazon. Also did 2 carboot sales.

It was when I had got everything out and arranged on my table at the first carboot sale that I sat back and had a proper look at all my stuff. I just kept thinking to myself, "How on earth did I end up with so much tat?"

I must have had a few hundred quids worth of stuff which I was now selling for pennies. Plus there was also the time factor - time spent turning out cupboards, putting into boxes, transporting to sales/post office etc. Unbelievable. That was my wake up call. Any time I am tempted to buy anything I just think of that table laden with my junk.

I am pleased to say that I now have a wardrobe with spaces between the gorgeous all white hangers. There are also spaces between the shoes on the wardrobe floor. Several pieces of big clunky furniture got sold off (on Friday Ad). I can open all my cupboards without anything bouncing off my head. I had 10 of those long under bed plastic storage boxes on wheels, 8 have now been emptied and are stacked neatly in the garage.

I've only got three more things outstanding on my decluttering 'to do' list and then that's it - done and dusted! My house looks and feels lighter and I actually feel like I am breathing easier too. It is a joy to come home now. I'm looking forward to spending time not looking after my 'stuff'.

I have always wanted a Collie dog and to do the dog agility thing. And if I keep to the 'no tat' rule I'll be able to afford both the time and money to look after him!
