The Great Declutter - 18 months on

  • Considering the amount of decluttering I've done over the last week, can't believe I haven't posted on here!

    Since last Tuesday I have:
Freecycled 3 vases, 3 pictures, a fruit bowl, 6 glass storage jars, bag full of random make up bags, hair bits etc. - all from my car boot sale boxes - decided as I haven't got round to doing it this year it's easier just to get rid!

    Taken to charity shops:
1 big bag of clothes to charity shop in my town,
1 big bag of clothes to Oxfam in the city - got my £5 off M+S voucher, got one for October so plenty of time to use it.
1 carrier of little toys, happy meal things etc - not wanted on freecycle so took them to a charity shop.

    Sold through ebay:
Lots of my Sylvanian Families (all sold really well actually) 6 posted out yesterday - so my stack of jiffy bags, cardboard boxes and packing materials has diminished too.

Then sorted out various things for recycling, clothes, paper, card etc, took some things to the recycling banks and clothes will go tomorrow.

Have some more things to post/sell later today so will update tonight.

So in: money in my paypal account, an M+S voucher and
    Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000
Initial Mortgage free date - January 2058
    Mortgage as of 1st February 2024 - £159,134.98
    Overpayments to date - £79.62
Current Mortgage free date - January 2058

well today I have decluttered the freezer!!

Sadly it was by accident... found the door ajar and now have about a third of the stuff in there as loads defrosted!! WHOOPS!!

Oh well we had a strange mix of stuff for tea and will be doing the same for the next 2 nights at least!!!

    An update...

turns out that the freezer was actually switched off so the rest of the food in there has defrosted now so I have totally decluttered one freezer!! But I now have a full fridge of partially defrosting food items to try and decise what to do with!!!

Well I currently have 14 items listed on ebay (2 ending in a day or so, 12 listed today) and I'm hoping to get more listed before bed time. :j Just stopped while DD is in due to the nature of some of the items (ie her stuff that she'll want back if she sees it :rotfl: )

My youngest is starting school full time tomorrow, so after the row of hospital appointments this week (4 appointments in 3 days), i will start to tackle my house next week. I cant wait to get sorted. We have lived here for 2.5yrs and due to my ill health (Crohns) and after surgery (colectomy and ileostomy)in July, im ready for action.

Not achieved anything today but must get on and get everything washed up and put away. I find that once the kitchen's clean I have more motivation to get on and do other stuff.
We're finishing the skirting boards in the lounge tonight which means we can get the tv unit away. We can get the curtain rail up, the coving can be finished, the window and wall can be repainted and curtains rehung. This will clear a lot of clutter because we can get rid of the paint pots and things.
Then we can get on with the dining room!
I'll finish the ironing tomorrow and ditch more of DD's clothes. I have a friend who's got clothes for DD so I'm picking them up in the morning and sorting and ditching as I go!
I'm going to get caught up with all the washing and ironing and then bring all of DH's clothes downstairs. Hopefully I can shock him into getting rid of some if he realises how much stuff he's got and how much he has which is very similar to other stuff.
I'll leave him with 1 set of decorating clothes and then that's him done. (Famous last words!)

furrypig - anything that was frozen raw can be cooked and frozen. depending on what you have, you could batch cook bolognese, chilli etc and freeze in portions for homemade ready meals. chicken breasts - curry. whole chicken - cook then freeze the meat in portions.

if you do a seperate post listing all the contents i'm sure the oldstylers can come to the rescue with ideas.
