Carebearbecky... how about carrot and coriander soup? Simple but effective, non?
*scurries away to investigate carrot recipes too...* :rolleyes:0 -
Ooooh Sian, the carrot jam sounds good... Do you have a good recipe?
Naturally, usually I would go straight down the soup route, but my freezer still has some carrot and ginger soup in there from last time I couldn't resist a bargain!!!Perpetual Lurker!

I was just going to suggest this myself! You could make loads and freeze the leftovers for another day! I once got some reduced Covent Garden carrot and corriander soup and it was delish. I made my own with grated carrots, veg stock, onion, garlic and corriander all blended and it was just as delish! Just found this one on the bbc Goodfood website and it has 12 excellent ratings!! http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/7003/carrot-and-coriander-soup Perhaps someone could work out how much this soup would cost to make. If you make double you could freeze the other half and save on electricity!!MFW 2011 challenge - Aim: Overpay £414.26 a month/£5,000 a year. Carrots roast ok too, or maybe you could get creative with a "puree" side dish. Reading my new WW recipe book yesterday and they suggest boiling then mashing carrots with coriander and having it as an accompaniment to a meal.
I just so happen to have a cooking vegetables recipe book too,(yes I am that sad and obsessed with eating veggies!) which suggests roasting them with garlic or stir fried with ginger & mint.
Or how about grated with some orange juice and raisins and apple for a something a bit like coleslaw? Do you have a juicer - carrot and ginger with apple juice is really good for you! :T
Got annoyed at Mr T today, and it reminded me of Weezl's nutritional analysis of sausages :rotfl: I wanted something to eat with sugar free jelly that was low in WW points, so I went to get some ready made custard as a bit of a treat. "Ooh, the light choices version looks good" me thinks, checks price, baulks - 85p for a small ish carton. Look at other options. A tin of Mr T value is 18p and contains the same amount of custard. Look at nutritional analysis. The same amount of calories and LESS fat & saturated fat! AND you get a bigger portion with What a rip off the light choices one was!0 -
hehe what about carrot cake for them there carrots! I have a whole bag from my bargainous lidl find (tho not 21p!) last week...eridwen what recipe would you like - I have a book with 1000 veggie recipes in and its v. good...just shout a request!

I bought a few tubes of toothpaste in Lidl last week for our shoeboxes, (and some spares for when we check and amend the others our church collects). I usually buy a few bits as I see them through the year. I hadn't noticed the knitting patterns, must have a go. It is a long time since I have knitted anything.

Morning all
Still fighting off the rotten cold that hubby got from work  -I think im on the home straight now...has cost a small fortune mind
In search of me -nope, no PM...and what is "operation xmas child?"
Well I decided to see how the sweet potatoes had done -and as expected they have not done well -a combination of 3 weeks without watering when i had to go back to the UK (thankyou neighbour:rolleyes: )and not enough warm days  -Im still happy though as it shows that I will be able to do them again next season .... buying sweet potato slips is expensive -this was my experiment to see if I could grow them from a supermarket sweet potato -There are loads -all from slips from 1 potato -just imagine if they had swollen as they should :T so next season im going to start them earlier and plant them in 2 spare dustbins so they have extra depth etc
I will turn these ones into some soup tomorrow -thankfully they aren't woody -even though they didn't get enough water
I seem to be finding some half decent tins of beans/pulses too at the moment... the latest being tins of borlotti beans for 29c/24p a tin :T so I have added some of those to the winter store:D
The remoska is earning its keep -still not put the oven on since I had it :j - Made a yorkshire pud in it last night to go with the cornedbeef hash -it was gorgeous, done chilli cobbler for hubby too, amongst other things...
Today is the other half of the cornedbeef hash -probably with a crust on top nomnomnom
Right Im off to sit on patio and get my broad beans set-the fresh air should do me good too
Have a great day everyone-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

here ya go! I didnt realise they were a Christian organisation when I did it!! What I would call a godincidence!! Managed to get a fair bit from woolies and wilkinsons but couldnt remember what was what plus thought it better to see what I have when its boxed so that I can see if I need more. We're doing 2 boxes for work and I decided to do a girlie one from me and then saw some bargainous kites, whistles and cars!!
Happy baking - may do a carrot cake later!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0
