well in principle, I think it's a good idea. But I've never eaten snails as it doesn't appeal to me. Great OS idea tho! Wonder if you can eat slugs - I've got 000's of those!

Apparently so:D - I gather one just boils them in salty water and serves them with a pat of butter. They are described as "chewy but tasteless".

A specific recipe for them is:

Well - you know what they say about "waste not, want not"........errr...you first....:rotfl:

eeeewwwww!! There was a snail and slug discussion last year I seem to recall! Cant rem if weezl was up to it! The weezles are well, fergaloo has got a very cute double chin and his daddy's hollow legs and am unsure when weel last mse'd as them there babies to take up much time...the geeky brain returns though as she worked out that Fergus is not a 50p baby already and I suspect with daddylike appetite shes got a challenge on her hands!!

Hi ISOM - good to hear that our favourite "geek" has returned to normal! Fergus on more than 50p per days worth ALREADY...eek! Good job she loves 'im...yep...I've been following whats what enough to realise that....but then I knew that would be the case anyways...and it does cheer my heart to see a child being loved and looked after proper-like it does...with some of the poor little b******s around. So - good on ya' our Weezl and take care...:D

an update whist fergus has a feed, scuse the one-handed typing!

we recently had a look at a new budget, and have settled on £90 a month for 'food health and beauty', so that's a little bit under £1 pr day. i didn't think it was worth posting about as it's double what we used to spend, but good old ISOM assured me it would be worth saying how that might be achievable with a 7 week old baby!

having allowed ourselves a few months off, we're back to baking bread again and are making 4 loaves for 68p, so just over 1p per slice:money:

acetate monkey's skinniness has not decreased with fatherhood, so we've been making boiled fruitcakes (isom please tell em how lovely and moist it is?!) semolina pudding, golden syrup sponges.....

all of these things are being done slightly differently now there is a fergus, so this thread might be more useful to those who need recipes you can stop and start at any point...

on-call doctors..... people with an incontinent cat..... people used to endless streams of unexpected guests?

all welcome anyhow! if i post my £90 target i'll have to stick to it!

had green pea soup for my lunch today, 10p per serving, and 2 of my 5 a day, and 70cals per serving, recipe available on request.;)

thanks so much to all who've posted congratulations. we are rather thrilled with our new arrival.:o:D

Sadly i wasn't any good at breat feeding, so fergus uses his £1 a day for aptamil (74p), and spends the rest on a nappy a day and lotions. he only buys 1 a day nappies, cos it's his nighttime eco-friendlyish disposable (13p) and the rest of the time he wears these:

    bambino mio

    which are green and great!

    will be back soon,

    love to all,

    Weezl xxx

Sounds like you all are getting on great! I look forward to hearing updates on how you do on £90/mth :)

Just heard that dh is being made redundant so think I need to re-read your thread and get myself back into healthy cheap eating mode!

Lovely to see you back posting Weezl...£90 a month...not sure I will be able to go much of the way with you on that, prices here are way different to UK, but I will be watching for recipes and tips, even if my costs are more.

Glad to hear that Fergus is doing so well, sorry you couldn't manage to breastfeed, but it isn't for everyone and that is why I get annoyed when people try to make you feel guilty if you haven't managed it...can you guess that all of my seven were bottle fed....believe that breast is best but refuse to be browbeaten if it doesn't work (rant over!)

An chance of a more up to date photo...would love to see his two chins!

    Welcome back to posting, Weezl!

Got a bit confused with the loaf sums - are you getting 17 slices a loaf? If so, how? I'm lucky if I get 12 and even then at least two will be crumbly; I'm just not very good at slicing straigh plus the cosistency of my loaves doesn't lend itself to thin slices!

All hints and tips gratefully received.
