i too would be tempted to go down the porridge made with water route for brekfast every day, for lunch i would make a huge vat of soup to last the week to be eaten with value sliced cheapy bread. and for your evening meals i`d buy a big tray of mince and make a hugeee bolognaise well padded out with lots of cheap veggies, red lentils, oats etc ...have spag bol with your pasta one night with the leftovers another night have a chilli by adding a tin of red kidney beans and chilli powder, normally i still have enough leftovers to make a small lasagne.
i know this is very repetitive food throughout the week but needs must as they say...at least you wont go hungry.
it would be best to get the most food from your £12 and by keeping the food simple and the number of ingredients needed to be bought to a minimum should keep the overall cost down.
    good luck!!!

i luckily have cereal, dried milk
  • Egg and chips is a nice meal, beans on toast (sainsburys value beans came out top in a Daily Mail taste test), home made pizza (a packet of pizza base mix is really cheap), make the topping with some tomato puree (29p in aldi) mixed with the juice off of a tin of tomatoes (save the actual tomatoes to have with egg and chips), add some seasonings and herbs and top with grated value or basics cheese - it's really nice! Get some value or basics flour and make scones really cheaply, and pancakes are cheap and easy to make and are really filling. This might sound disgusting but it tastes wonderful: Take 2 packets of cheapy noodles and make up according to the packet instructions then mix with a tin of beans, some curry powder salt and pepper and I put a dollop of mango chutney in but if you're broke leave it out and just put a tsp of sugar and dash of vinegar or lemon juice. It tastes fab! Chickeny noodles is another favourite in our house. I just make up about 3 of pints of stock with chicken cubes and then add in a chopped onion, grated carrot and a 500g packet of value spaghetti which you have broken up. Cook until the pasta has swelled and absorbed the water - add lots of salt and pepper and a knob of butter or marg. You can do exactly the same thing with rice too. It will be hard and won't by any stretch of the imagination be gourmet eating but you can get through it. Good luck.

Value Sausages 99p for 20 you could get a good few meals out of one bag
Slice them into chunks : Sausage Toad, sausage pasta, sausage casserole, sausage, egg and beans.
Buy some cheap flavoured noodles they are tasty, filling and cheap and can be used as a side dish or eaten on their own with bread and butter
Lentils are a good bet too they are cheap and can be added to Mince to stretch it out a bit or make a lentil soup and add some diced streaky bacon very tasty and filling.
A turkey drumstick can be stripped and made into a casserole or added to rice with a some frozen mixed veg
    Macaroni cheese is filling too
Aldi have a good deal on fruit and veg this week
I don't know what you have in your cupboards and freezer so thats all I can think of for now.
Another way is to go to a relatives house and see if they could give you a meal.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

do u have £12 a week or could u maybe use £24 for 2 week's ? as sometimes it easier to doa bit of a bigger shop to last longer. as then u don't go into store and get tempted. if that makes sence.

I'd be really tempted to buy a sack of spud's. ( where i am on isle of wight ) a sack costs around £5.50 for 55lb. that would easily last u a good couple week's.

could make potato layer pie, Jackets spuds with various topping's ( even just butter is nice) , home made chips, wedges, i've done in the past a cheats bombay potatos concoction. or cooked potatoes chopped up and fried slightly with a tin of tesco 4p value sauce. i loved it.) i'm easy pleased tho, lol) cheesy mash and beans ( sausages if u have them) potatoes are a really good base.

i often find the smaller amount of money i have the better we eat as i become really creative and make most of what we have.
