ceridwen - reminds me of the number of times people (including me) moan about things and say 'if only...........' and 'they ought to do this that or the other'..........'they' being the men in suits at the top, when really we little folk at the bottom are more capable than we think.
Whether I'll get OH to switch the lights off I don't know but if he's having a doze I can do it and he'd probably never know.................lol

Hi - Mary I'm so glad you are feeling better :lovethoug- must've been a horrible experience for you in that hospital .

Ceridwen - I did switch lights off for Earth hour last night - one of my friends phoned but didn't know annything about it, couldn't convince her to switch her lights of as she is one of those people that says"what difference does it make" and then complains later. Don't think anyone else in our neighbourhood bothered either coz I looked out the window and everywhere was merrily lit up like Blackpool Illuminations! Well, that's two of us that's concerned anyway - anyone else on this thread switch theirs off???

Talking about Transition Towns - do you think they have Transition Cities, coz I live in a suburb of Liverpool, and would love to join something like that - well I'll check it out but......not holding out too much hope !
When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on

(hangs head in shame)............well, I'll blame OH for being awake at the alotted time and insisting he watch tele.............lol Hes a bit of a cynic about all this and there's no persuading him........believe me I've tried. Best I could do was switch everything off except one table lamp and the tele.
Don't know how many people did actually do it and haven't heard anything on the news. Be interesting to know.

Turned everything electric in the house off last night....except for tv, as OH was watching a soccer match, but felt that I had done what I could....I go around all the time turning off lights anyway! Was a little miffed that I made a muck of the pattern I was knitting by the light of candles, windup torch and tv, have ripped it back this am and am hoping to get back to where I was when I realised that I had gone wrong!

    Hello all,

yes, all illuminations were off in our house last night dinner by tealight was great - DD was most excited; but then she has attended various rally/march/protest awareness raising type events. I had to collect her from a friends just before the hour & was pleased that the friends parents were participating but a quick look out of the window revealed that none of my neighbours were

    Hi

think its taking a bit longer in Britain to get Earth Hour up and running than in some countries - but a start has been made. Dont know how many of the lights off in my area last night were deliberate - but anyways I had a little looksee and hopeful glance at the sky - still suffering badly from the amount of light emitted by my area at night (too tired right now to recall the term for that..). Came back and lay listening to music on my wind-up radio - Classic F.M. onto shades of my teenage with another channel playing 60's songs (you know it was your era when you're there mentally singing along to the words...). Nearly fell asleep...but anyways...did my bit..

PAGAN GIRL - I think there's one or two RATHER large U.S. cities that have set up Transition Town groups - so see no reason why one of largest cities shouldnt do so. Perhaps you could think along lines of a Transition Town group just for your suburb of Liverpool? and the next suburb over has their own T.T. group and so on.? I guess the phrase "Transition TOWN" may not be the best title for the groups - as there's also Transition Villages and Transition Cities etc.....

Reet...off to see how my dinner is doing...having taken the lazy way out and bought a bit of it readymade...as am feeling distinctly tired right now...and I've still not got my seeds planted....been doing some gardening this afternoon..but it wasnt for myself...hmmm...I'll get there....

MARY...hope you're feeling a bit more rested after your "escape" from that hospital?

Did bit too much yesterday I'm afraid though it didnt feel like it at the time........all I did was finish off foster daughters garden hamper then sort out bits for my sons birthday. Surprising how low the energy levels are.
Did a very small scrapbook this morning to pop in with sons pressies - just a few 'arty' quotes -aged the paper with OH's leftover coffee. Even that felt tiring.
Gave the school boot fair a miss today.........I'd never have made it down the first aisle..............- Let alone coming back.........lol I did venture down the garden though just to see what a mess it all was.........praying that young ex foster lad is true to his word and shows up in the morning to give it all a going over. Got little daffs flowering away and grape hyacinths, plus the violas I planted in tubs last autumn so there is some colour.
Picked out some paint for OH to fetch from Focus on Tuesday........stairs and landing badly need painting and the outside of the house is driving me bonkers. So, might as well get these things done while we've a 'kid free' zone. I'll not be doing it I hasten to add........just instructing and saying the usual 'you missed a bit'...................lol

Pass some positive thoughts my way..........might perk up sooner then..............thanks guys..........xx

ceridwen - radio 2 Sat. morning -Brian Matthews 'sounds of the 60's'...and earlier.............scary when I realise I remember them..........lol
