I discovered yesterday that the Quakers have a new offshoot - or rather have revamped one they have had for some time. Friends' Committee On Unity With Nature (what a quaint mouthful!) is now called Quaker Earthcare Witness. They are a small but select band in the US of A. There are a lot of pamphlets, some of whose titles made me think of Ceridwen. This one (a long but fascinating read) overlaps Pagan Girl's description of paganism. The similarities are amazing, given that one is pagan, the other Quaker. I once read that religions and spiritual beliefs are like spokes in a wheel, fastened to the hub. The nearer they get to the Spirit, the closer together they become. A bit like money saving Old Style?

Thanks for that Charis. I have favourited that to go back for a read - those titles do sound like a suitable read for me:D

First reaction - "now that the Quakers are onto it - it WILL happen. Lets hope it happens in time". You know about Quakers - as do I - as we both have had contact - I am an ex-Quaker as you know. I had noticed that the environment is now one of the latest Concerns.

Cogs of a wheel is one way to put it. As I recall from my Quaker days - a way that was frequently used to describe the input of the different faiths was that people from different faiths were each seeing one facet of a diamond - but they were all looking at the same diamond. That was the gist of it - if not the exact words.

So - again I'm back to my point I made before about temperament also being a deciding factor in where one is likely to pick for a "homebase". I think if I was more "intellectually-oriented" - then I might have stuck with this. So - from this - I can see why you have the connection and this is the nearest to a "homebase" from your POV.

    Hi Mary

have now seen your "post" about your appointment.

So - obviously - take it as read that my thoughts are with you. I can understand why you would feel worried - but hopefully its just them "playing safe" and it will only be a minor thing and soon sorted out. I'm sure you'll be "back here" and letting us know how things go - so we'll all keep our fingers crossed/send out positive vibes/pray or whatever is our own particular way of thinking of you. <<hugs>>

ceridwen - many thanks. I feel strangely less worried that I did earlier.........maybe its me getting over the shock (sounds a bit drastic but it was a shock none the less) or it could be the positive vibes I'm receiving.
Be sure you'll know on Tuesday when I come back what the man in the white coat says.

Meanwhile I'm typing out a list of '52 reasons why I love you' for OH for Valentines Day..............lol We never 'do' Valentines day...........far too soppy he always says - so this year I'll surprise him................lol
Only got to 32 reasons so far and I'm stuck ............
......I'll have to have a little think....................

Well - Mary - this is one "for instance" where I would see what is meant by the "thoughts are things" idea. There have been times in the past where I have suddenly realised that I've just been "surrounded" with "warmth"/care/concern.....and I've instantly realised someone is thinking positively/in a caring way about me......in my case...I tend to think instantly of one particular friend as being the most likely one that this is coming from. Sometimes - its been more diffused and its been clear that more than one person is thinking positively of me.

So - for tonight - relax and just "stay with it" on those thoughts coming your way from us all.

Thinking of you too, Mary. Hopefully it will turn out to be nothing. My sis got a similar call and had to have a biopsy, but thankfully it was OK - although she is on a more frequent schedule to get checked as a result.

ceridwen - relax I will and I just might have a slight chuckle at being able to keep my front tooth a while longer than I thought. It'll have to come out and my dentures popped in -oh the joys of getting older.............lol

Benefits ?Pension (such as it is), Free bus pass, heating allowance, concessions for various other things, free prescriptions, free eye tests (unfortunately not free specs!)
I'm sure there are more if I could think of them..................lol

Many thanks for the support -it means a lot as you know:A

Now its time too curl up my toes on the sofa and give OH a bit of 'us' time;)

Big hugs Mary, sending positive thoughts to you  - hopefully it will be something & nothing, but better getting checked again.

Glad the pagan post was interesting. I was a closet pagan for years, knew it would upset mum - so lived with it til she died, then came out of the closet!:rotfl: I'm definitely pagan, my church is the big outdoors, seeing the beauty of nature in all her glory i.e. beautiful sunsets, looking at the silhouettes of the trees in winter against the twilit sky, tending towards druidry but have picked up my own bits here and there from other religions and have a reverence for His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Haven't tried the test on beliefnet but will have a go later. The one thing I will never understand is that pagans are so tolerant of other religions, why so many fundamentalists are not the same way???
Ooops - possible cause for big argument here ??? - No offence meant folks.
When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on

Errr....I think we'll not dwell on that subject of respective "tolerance" levels - PaganGirl - 'tis best not to methinks - I think I am pretty well aware on this front - with having a good friend who would fall under the "fundamentalist" banner - so I understand she is genuinely concerned for my welfare in her fashion - and we avoid the subject by and large - to maintain the friendship - and try to stay focused on what we have in common in other respects.

Anyways....moving swiftly on....as I dislike arguments myself (get way more than enough of them at w**k)......and that is still summat that "looms very large on my personal horizon". Woke up this morning thinking "Hmmmm.....so thats the lines they're thinking along now is it.....hmmm.....possibly positive?????...wait and see...... ".

And back to Mary......how did you sleep Mary? How're you feeling this morning?
