pagangirl - I've tried that with our chemists before but they wouldnt take them - they are only very small branches so don't know whether thats anything to do with it. Oh well, if I use some of these drops and keep the rest -just in case someone else in the house might need them- at least they'll not be waster. They''re water based so should be safe for anyone I'd have thought.
Our builder is a brilliant bloke - trouble is, he is a bit of a 'tomorrow' chap..........when he says 'I'll be here Wednesday' I wonder which week ............lol:rotfl:

For those who are interested in a "greener" take on life...the Totnes Transition Town monthly bulletin is going from strength to strength....as is Transition Town Totnes. Well worth a look - as a model for the future for us all:

    http://totnes.transitionnetwork.org/central/bulletin/home

hopefully this link will show up the page I am getting (as I'm wondering if things might be a bit different for others - as I am subscribed to get the regular monthly newsletter). If things do look different to you - then I'm sure the page your computer shows up will give a relevant bit where you can subscribe if you wish.

that seems a bit strange Mary, the advice used to be to return unwanted meds to the pharmacy. I returned stuff to my last chemist and my current chemist, both small village shops, privately owned and they took them without any bother. Maybe the other option is to return them to your surgery if they have a dispensary? ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Please, just throw them out if your chemist won't take them.

Any medicines, cosmetics, household stuff that has water in will have preservatives. But the preservatives have a shelf life. 6 to 12 months is about average because water is a delightful smorgasbord for bugs!

The instructions for use on that bit of paper in the box with the eye drops will probably say about not using it after x amount of time from opening, as well as not giving it to other people to use.
That's there for a reason. Please don't ignore those instructions.

Euww! Thanks for the reminder. I need to sort through my cosmetics and cleansers. I'm still working my way through my stockpile of moisturisers & facial cleansers and need to label each product with the date of opening from now on. I really ought to bin my cosmetics, even the ones without a water content. I never wear them and some are getting on a bit :o

BTW I just googled 'returning unused medicines' and discovered that in the US it is illegal to return unused drugs to a pharmacy. They either go into landfill or the water supply. However some posters on the thread mentioned that kids as young as ten have 'pharma-parties' where they experiment with found drugs. http://h2otown.info/node/9745

Gigervamp - I always check labels on medicines.......its the other stuff like make up I tend to overlook. Having said that I had a good clear out a while back as I don't use make up a lot............some of it I'd had for ages .

Well tried the eye drops last night and this morning - so far no improvement though they're not as sore, just very watery.........gives me a sort of blurry vision after a time then they're ok for a bit.
Oh well, time will tell. Nurse said to try them for about 4-5 days but given me far more drops than that so I'll see around Tuesday how they are.

Well, after a day of eye drops yesterday I thought this morning that my eyes felt a little bit better. OH says they look dreadful and worse than yesterday-much more bloodshot and certainly a lot worse than when I went to the Doctors on Friday
He's wondering if the drops are doing more harm than good and I've not a clue so at the minute I'm washing them every little while with cotton wool (careful to use clean one for each eye) and see what happens.
And there was me happily making a few birthday cards thinking things were getting better............... Maybe back to the doctors tomorrow ?

hi, hope your eyes are getting better mary43, i had very sore eyes for four months!!! last year, which made me look like a panda, i had to wear my sunglasses all the time - even through dark december! and after 5 different type of eye drops i was no better... however i had to be treated at A & E for a very bad allergic reaction to my SIL's cat, where my face & throat swelled up, and the doc gave me a course of steroids to take , guess what - the eyes cleared up within 3 days of the treatment starting! i was of course very pleased, but also pretty mad that my own docs (three different ones i saw) allowed me to suffer so long without prescribing them.

and yes, i chucked the eyedrops out - immediately!

i'm still working my way through the old thread in between keeping up on here - page 88 so far - it's taking me ages, but it's like an online soap opera - i'm hooked at hearing about everyones lives as they progress throughout the year - i've only just got past easter! so still a long way to go - probably be this easter by the time i catch up. and i've had loads of tips and links to follow up too, which is taking forever... but i'm totally hooked!

    Hi all simplifiers,

I had a productive weekend with my new chest of drawers :D . I have another bag of clothes for the chrity shop & am proud to have included several ornaments / sentimental type things too. I cant bear ornaments actually but people seem to give them to me & I always felt I had to keep them.. not any more though.

I also mangaged to offload all the pieces of wood that used to be cheap shelves - a friend has an open fire ;) . I still cant face doing the photo albums - too emotive at the moment, but my next area to be cleared is the shed  .

Mary43 - you poor thing :( my DD once developed an infection overnight & couldnt even open her eyes in the morning which was very scary. I took her to a nearby walk-in emergency centre & have to say the drops she was given did work within 24 hours. Your eyesight is too valuable to risk, I would suggest you go to A & E , have you tried taking piriton or other type of antihystamine syrup ?

    best wishes
    lula
