chuckling about my black socks - 7 pairs all the same - bet it'll take me ages to wear them out / lose "one" in the wash etc. wonder how long they'll last me?

I buy 2 packs of those black socks every 2 years. I wear them at least 5 days a week at work and am on my feet for at least 10 hours in that day. I find they wear out before I lose too many, the last lot after 2 years were a bit transparent!

  • Charis and Mary43 - thankyou for your replies. I went to entitledto.co.uk and entered in my details. It says we are entitled to £42.77 a week child tax credits, not the £10.22 we are getting. But then it wanted more info on our housing status and rent payments to see if we are entitled to housing benefit (which we are not) then at the summary at the end it said we are entitled to £10.22 child tax credits a week, so now i am very confused!! But then I was guestimating some of the amounts as my job is with an agency and my income is diferent everyweek and i couldnt find my p60 (thats the end of year income breakdown isnt it?)

sorry if this is all confusing! i am confusing myself!

I haven't been that well the last fewdays and havent yet tried theCAB again but when I did before itwas to speak to a telephone advisor, and they were all busy on each of the times i tried. I am going to try again today.

EDIT: Just been rummaging through all the paperwork and have found my partners p60 but cant find my 07-08 p60 so i dont know what my total earnings were that period. And as i have already said I cant easily figure it out as my income is different everyweek! So now i am in a panic and cant sort this out. Ahh!
Natwest credit card £230, will be paid off end of Feb!
Nationwide credit card £2900, will be paid off end March thanks to PPI rebate of £153.08 and £2207.44!
Nationwide loan £11,574 due to end Aug '15. Overpay to be debt free by July '13 :D

linzi - don't panic ! If you're anything like me looking for things in a state of panic means you won't find them..............take a break, chill out and bit then start again. (I always find what I was looking for when I look for something else...............lol
And if you can't get through to one branch of CAB try another and you might be lucky. They all have the same information.

Not sure if the rules are the same but a few years back when one of the girls we had left to live on her own her working hours varied and Housing Benefit told her to send her pay slips in and they would make sure she received H/B for the weeks her earnings were low. Might be worth giving H/B a ring to find out.
    Good luck.

My day hasn't gone as planned.............young lad got up at 7am to go to school -due to visit mum straight from school but hadn't packed his change of clothes...........decided he couldn't be bothered/not enough time -any excuse really and when taxi turned up he walked out in the pitch dark and fog disappearing up the road:eek: He's best left when he's like this and he cools down .......which he did but then wished he'd gone to school. Couldn't get transport till 3.30pm so he decided to be really annoying with a pair of scissors  Ignore negative behaviour I told myself.............lol Easier said than done but I did and eventually after what seemed like hours he stopped and went out. Comes back at mid day having got a lift from a relative so all is now peaceful but I've got a headache !!
I was going to cover my photo albums and a shoe box with some paper I'd bought but that would have involved the dreaded scissors so I ended up tidying up my family tree files and sorting them out a bit. Not what was on my list of 'stuff to do' for today..............never mind..........maybe tomorrow ?

Just to add to my what seemed like a very fraught day:

OH spotted something in the paper about Travel Lodge doing saver rooms - Ideal thought I. I promised him a holiday in Worthing this summer (coupled with seeing my son) so in true mse fashion I log on to website and trawl throught the endless months from January to July (did type in required date but it seemed to get ignored). Well, seems their saver prices are mid week -weekend it cost a lot more -still affordable (just!) An hour all this took and between running about from computer to OH who was sat at the kitchen table and didn';t seem to want to move to concey the various prices I was getting crosser by the second. Fed up in the end I gave up and we'll go through it all again tomorrow.
Then I get e mail from National Express..........some offers of £1 tickets.........brilliant thought I !! Not so fast thought Nat.Express as I trawled through the months again only to come to a full stop in April !! Do these offers cease in April ? e mail said nothing about that ! So, my mse ideas are currently shelved as is my sanity.................

So, time I think to sit on the sofa and watch the Tightest Man programme (forget the whole title) and the second half of Living on Nothing...........

Moan over.............just put the lid on my day and I'll laugh about it later when I realise that none of it was really that drastic.

    Night all

Mary, take care with booking the Travelodge specials online. There's a thread by a chap whose cheap room turned out to cost him more than he was expecting, due to a website glitch .... http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=17289925&highlight=travelodge#post17289925

£1,552 at the last reckoning

I love duct tape :D its currently holding on the draught board at my back door (until the builder man can repair properly) and also covered over gaps in the back corners of a cupboard to keep the big spideys out (I bought white for that as the cupboard is painted white inside) and also used some to cover rather large gaps between the wall and (closed off) chimney breast in my bedroom, again to stop the creepies; I used white in there and painted over, worked brilliantly. ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

oh, nothing against duct tape - i've a few rolls of it meself - in different colours too! just don't want to have to wear it if i can get away with it! saw a pic of that guy with his workboots taped up with white duct tape. you've painted over it, eh? never tried that - surprised it didn't just kinda run off. thanks for the tip tho - i'm now pondering any holes in walls etc. that i might be able to remedy!

Charis - thanks for the warning about Travelodge - we have done it before on line -last March I think it was - and that went ok but after all the hassle yesterday I think it'll be easier to phone them up............there's half page advert in the brochure I've got. Was going to do it today but got bogged down on organising photo albums............so far done album number 1..........lol Teenage grandchildren bought me one for christmas so I had to go through the umpteen that I've already got and take out any of them.
Also took out quite a few of other subjects (holidays, garden, foster kids etc) so they're all held in separate rubber bands till its their turn..........lol
Can't believe it took me all morning to do just one !! Still, I've made a start and the rest of the albums are piled up ready and waiting.

firework - interesting programme - apparently its cheaper to buy boys underpants than ladies.......... lady had a line full of them...........lol
Some of the 'tips' were bordering on the 'eccentric' but others were quite good. Blessed if I can remember a lot of them now but one chap's wife refuses to live with him because of his meaness !
