i used to do a 50 mile round trip to get to work, and i stuck it for 2 years but didn't have kids at the time. and i made dh do most of the housework at that time although he was a student so i felt that was fair.
it may work for you. i'm assuming you would use the train. would you be disciplined enough to work on the train? therefore freeing time up at home for the kids,
and, would you get enough help doing school runs/around the house if you did it?
personally i would go closer, but it is not really what you want, so would you stick at it?
sorry - not much help am i?0 -
I'm off to hang out the cushion covers in the LOVELY SUNSHINE :j:j:j

Hi everyone.
Have not caught up with the thread yet.
Did a sleep in yesterday which meant I was away 24 hours.
Been to bed for a couple of hours this morning.
Gas fire and boiler serviced so I can rest easy now.
Off to do some flying then will catch up with you all.0 -
51 miles each way is a heck of an add on to each day piggers! You would have to be incredibly disciplined and leave the house terribly early;) That is like me attending Glasgow uni instead of Heriot watt, to make my 9.15am lecture i would have to leave the house at 7am. Bear in mind it will be rush hour i wouldnt imagine you would get much work done on a rush hour train. No chance of relocating the clan?
The problem with choosing a less appealing course at a closer uni would be that i doubt your heart would be in it as much? If you really want to do the far away one you should, but logistically is it possible? Sorry for the waffle, i know what i'm trying to say, even if its not clear to anyone else, lol.The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

G&B~~ watch out who you are calling old!!
Pigpen~~ personally I would go local, I travelled to uni each day, 30 miles each way, by bus and back and was worn out by the end of each week.
Johanne~~ you enjoy your time in the sun with your Sarah, OH's cousin, if she makes any comment, just give her a bucket, mop, duster, polish and let her get on with it!! :rotfl:
I am struggling with my stardrops, was foaming, so now use less, but really cannot see any difference to any thing else I used before!

I do a 40 mile round trip 3 days a week to work. Takes me half an hour in the car each way and that's not in rush hour traffic. Are you driving or busing or training it?
Forgot to add it costs me about £12 - £15 in fuel.
Train so shouldn't be too delayed.. in theoryLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Waffle away I know what you are saying.. lol.... Can't do relocating as DD1 would be in her final year at high school and doing GCSE's and if we did hubby would still be working here so it wouldn't make any difference.cha97michelle wrote: »i used to do a 50 mile round trip to get to work, and i stuck it for 2 years but didn't have kids at the time. and i made dh do most of the housework at that time although he was a student so i felt that was fair.

I would have to work on the train.. that would be most of the time spent studying knowing me.. Everyone would just have to chip in.. or I'd use the bursary to cover a cleaner..Actually knowing me.. I'd sleep on the train and burn the midnight oil!

Pigpen - I suppose you have to balance it out...If the course you really want to do is further away and you're less keen on the local course...
Any chance of distance learning? I used to use public transport to get to my Uni (mature student 2000-2003) and even though it was a 'full time' course I didn't have to be there all day every day.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
