Pay the fine and learn the lesson of not to park in disabled bays. No matter how "not mega-busy" the car park, they could all fill up very quickly and I'm left getting my disabled granddad out of the car, getting his wheelchair out of the boot, putting the thing together, getting him into it - all with about 50cm between us and the car next door and wheeling him across the car park in the rain. Fun. Or even worse, repeat the above with newborn baby and pushchair and there's NO fines for people parking in mums spaces.

Sorry to sound harsh but both disabled bays and mums and babies parking are there for a very good reason and I think there should be harsh penalties for people parking there that shouldn't be. Like the above poster said, be thankful it wasn't for a £90 clamp!

Well said - its appalling to park in a disabled bay - whatever you are doing or however quick you think you are going to be - serves you right.

Only half on topic - how annoying are those people who display disabled stickers in their cars but you can see the person for whose benefit that sticker was issued isn't actually accompanying them. The ones who jump out of the car, grab a trolley and stride into the store whilst I am helping my 85 year old Mum from my car to the store so she can do her shopping (I would do it for her but she likes to choose somethings herself). She is not registered disabled just not that steady on her feet. One Asda assistant once told me I should park in the disabled bays - aren't I glad I declined that offer!

Not all disablilities are clearly visible. Amazing how many non-disabled people seem happy to come on here and pronounce aobut what it's like to be disabled.

I'm reminded of the possibly apocryphal story of smeone parking in a disabled bay, striding from the car, and hearing the shout of "Alleluja! It's a miracle! He can walk!"

I've always wanted to do that. Unfortunately, I'm well aware that some disbilities aren't obvious. Also, I'm a coward.

  • I have an acquaintance who regularly goes shopping and parks in disabled spaces, using her mum`s card. Her doctor is also a friend of hers!!!

Must happen all the time, people abusing what should be a good system
  • i'm a blue badge holder and parked in the disabled bay as ASDA. I also received a fine for not paying and displaying. I have to confess I did not see the *very* small signs saying that as a disabled driver I also have to "pay and display". I don't really care about the fine - its the devious method in which it is employed which i care about.

I will pay the fine but I will also send a letter the chief executive of asda informing him to spend it wisely as it will be the last penny asda ever receive from me :T
  • tend to agree with the majority ive also never been one for keeping my gob shut .
if you park in a disabled space when not disabled or a parent and child without a child ,THEN YOU DESERVE ALL YOU GET .
he shouldnt of been there in the first place they are there for a reason does he know that water does hurt its not acid .

sorry to be harsh but its one of my pet hates
    Free of dept Thanks Martin

We complained in our local Asda about people using the disabled bays who didn't have a badge displayed and using the parent & child bays when they don't have kids with them, and were told that these bays were only a courtesy thing and that they couldn't do anything about people using them improperly.

Don't know if it's just our local Asda as it's not very big but even in the larger ones I only know of one that gives parking restriction times and has parking attendants in the car park but it is near a football stadium and obviously get people using the car park on match days. Or maybe Asda in Scotland haven't yet started using the parking attendants.

Really does infuriate me when people use these bays when they're not supposed to, I wouldn't even think about using the parent & child bays without the kids being with me even if the car park was almost empty.

We (my il's my ds and myself) parked in the parent and child spot in our local asda when my ds was 3 (he's 5 now). Half way through packing the shopping into the car my ds decided he needed the loo so my MIL took him back into the shop while we carried on packing. This total jobs worth of a parking attendant or what ever they call themselves, saw us packing up and started threatening us with a fine for not having a child with us. I explained that my mil had take my son back to use the toilet but he said he didn't believe me and said he wasn't leaving until my son came back. He actually stood infront of the car so FIL couldn't pull out (not that he was going to anyway because we were still waiting for my mil and ds to come back) When my my MIL and DS came back, the attendant just snorted, said He's to old to be using mother and baby spaces (it's not mother and baby it's parent and child) and walked off.

I went back into the store, made a complaint and heard nothing. So the next week I was there I demanded to speak to the manager. I was also told it was an outside co doing the parking control and out of his hands. SO I asked for details of Asda head office, phoned them and got an apology and a gift card with £20 on.

I've never seen that parking attendant in the carpark since :D

    i would like to know why these supermarket car parks have so many disabled bays in the first place..they are never all used..They provide a good 20/30 spaces in many of them ..and then normally have 2 at the most disable trollies for shopping with.I dont normally see 20/30 disabled people in the supermarket at one time either{no disrespect to disabled people}
