How do I find out my electricity supplier?

If you were experianced enough and actually worked in the industry you wouldn't even consider making a coment such as that, which I find truly offensive.

All suppiles are supposed to be registered on the network and when you contact MPAS they will be able to inform you who supplies your premises if your forward your meter serial number or postcode in most instances. The serial number is most important.

However there are many cases where the serial numbers aren't registered.

There are usually 2 explainations for this.

    1) A meter exchange has been carried out (new meter replacing old) and the relevant meter operator of the area hasn't informed the network therefore the new meter details arent registered. In cases such as this suppliers would still continue to invoice albeit on the old meter serial number.

    2) The party connecting a meter to a new supply (as is probably the case for Lillys Mum) failed to inform the network that the work had been completed. Cases such as this are fairly common. Sometimes there has just been a delay in registering the new meter and this is resolved in a matter of weeks.

However these delays can go on for years and some people are receiving free electricity or gas (it applies to gas as well). For a customer to receive a bill then a supply must be registered with a supplier. If it isnt even registered on the network then it will not be invoiced by a supplier as it is impossible (unless example 1 applies).

Like car insurance companies who pay into a pool so that payments can be made to drivers who are in accidents with other drivers who are uninsured, lectricity and gas suppliers pay into a pool to cover the costs for cases such as this.

Maybe this explains it to you a little better espresso and you can now retract your previous comment before offending me further.
  • Its a bit like obtaining a credit rating isn't it billsavings. If you havent had credit previously then its difficult to obtain and so the cycle goes on.

I dont operate in the domestic market and have absolutely nothing to gain (other than credibility) by offering advice and assitance to anyone wishing to seek it. Try looking at some of the other posts from the last 24 hours and you may conclude that I know my oats.

If you wish to tell people to be wary then I can understand that as the world is full of rogues and its hard to tell one from another without having the experiance of dealing with them.

Believe me my business has been built around destroying rogue brokers and fly by nights.

    And its pretty successful too.

I didnt tell them you not to contact you i said be careful.

Their is already a sticky about a long established broker they could use here.

  • That may be the case but I am offering assitance to people who are clearly seeking it, otherwise they wouldnt be posting on here.

We have a proven track record, just not on this forum..yet.

Ever heard of taking advice from more than one party?

Its why people come on here in the first place.

The more you post the more i get the impression you are actually touting for Business.

    I
  • billsavings .

I clearly stated yesterday in my original post.
Firstly you may be able to tell by my username what my profession is. I am not here touting for business as we have plenty of this and current market conditions are driving it. If people want advice in general they can pm me or if its an open question I will answer it in the forums.

I could quite easily state that you are inadvertently plugging another broker.

I can only re-iterate the warning given by billsavings.

If anyone is not prepared to post the required information on the open forum, they should be equally careful of divulging such information through the use of private messages, especially to a brand new member.

  • Premier that last thing someone should be doing is posting their meter serial number on an open forum thread.

Would you post your bank account details?

Some of you people think you have a monopoly on offering advice!
