How do I find out my electricity supplier?

We moved into a new build property in March of this year.
We were given our meter numbers and suppliers for gas and elec from the house builders.
When we rang up Eon who as far as we were aware they supplied both they said we have your gas but not elec.
He gave me a number to call to find out our elec supplier but they didn't help either no-one seemed to know who our supplier was.
Now as you will see 6 mths have passed and we still have not paid a penny elec and do not know who to pay it to if we could. We have put money aside each month so that we can pay if we get a huge bill through but we are just at a loss to know what to do.
Anyone have any words of wisdom for us?

Did you get given the 13 digit MPAN (meter poitn admin number)? From this i can find your supplier, otherwise if you give me your full postal address I can look it up for you.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I have a meter number but it is 10 digits long.
I have just found the moving in pack and noticed that it says Powergen are the suppliers for Gas and Elec, but we have always paid Eon for gas.
Are Powergen and Eon the same people?0 -

Yes they are the same0 -
If you do not know who your supplier is you can ring through the the MPAS (meter point administation service) distrubator in your area who can tell you who your supplier is. They can do this with just a postcode, or meter serial number.
The list below is who you would contact to find out who your supplier is depending on what area you live in:
Region Distribution Company MPAS Helpline * East Midlands Central Networks 0845 6030618 Eastern EDF Energy Networks 0870 1963082 London EDF Energy Networks 0845 600 0102 Midlands Central Networks 0845 6030618 North East Northern Electric Distribution 0845 6013268 North Scotland Scottish Hydro-Electric Power Distribution 0870 9009690 North Wales and Merseyside SP Power Systems Ltd 0845 270 9101 North West United Utilities 0870 7510093 South East EDF Energy Networks 0845 6015467 South Scotland SP Power Systems Ltd 0845 270 9101 South Wales Western Power Distribution 0845 6015972 South West Western Power Distribution 0845 6015972 Southern Southern Electric Power Distribution 0870 9050806 Yorkshire Yorkshire Electric Distribution 0845 33008890 -
I phoned Powergen/Eon this morning and was told there was no account set up for this property.
He told me no body had made a record of this property using electricity, he would need to take some details and call me back within the next 2 hrs.
I phoned at about 9.30 this morning and I haven't heard back yet!!! Typical.
Hopefully they will sort it out soon as I am dreading a huge bill and have no idea what prices they will use to calculate it on.
Also I have been missing out on my dual fuel discount as they supply both my utilities.
I guess I will just have to sit by the phone until they can be bothered to call me back!!!0 -
New builds are often a problem if you don't get it resolved quickly after moving in. Unfortunately builders sometimes give the wrong meter details to the wrong owners. You're best calling Eon back and having to hand; the meter serial numbers, the meter point references for both fuels, the original plot number of the house, the original post code for the plot and the name of the builders.
I know it's a pain and they should have called you today but they probably can't find your supply based on the info they currently have.
When you get billed it will be at the relevant prices, not just at the current price. If they supply both fuels you only get an additional discount for dual fuels if you pay both by monthly DD. Since you haven't yet been billed for both fuels there's no discount to miss.0 -
Lillys Mum,
If you Pm me with the meter serial number I will be able to see if it registered on the network.
If it isn't then I would keep quiet for the time being and just make provision in case the registration eventually gets activated.
You may end up receiving free electricity. And before any one states that this is bad advice it isnt. We have about a dozen business customers who's supplies arent registered and its as if they do not exist although they are clearly using electricity.
As a domestic customer the furthest a supplier can back bill is 12 months so if this goes on for a number of years without resolution you will receive the free electricity.
Depending on the size of house just put the appropriate amount of money in the bank each month just in case.0 -

Be careful giving this poster any info. Even though he appears to be being helpful, he has no track record on here.0 -

So who pays for this free electricity?

Its a bit like obtaining a credit rating isn't it billsavings. If you havent had credit previously then its difficult to obtain and so the cycle goes on.
I dont operate in the domestic market and have absolutely nothing to gain (other than credibility) by offering advice and assitance to anyone wishing to seek it. Try looking at some of the other posts from the last 24 hours and you may conclude that I know my oats.
If you wish to tell people to be wary then I can understand that as the world is full of rogues and its hard to tell one from another without having the experiance of dealing with them.
Believe me my business has been built around destroying rogue brokers and fly by nights.
And its pretty successful too.0
