  • porridge was great , lots of blobs of semi melted chocolate at the bottom - I was going to open a bottle of wine but I'm going to save it.

It's so daft, but I kind of think it's one of 2 incidents which 'implanted' the fear, most likely when I was on my first driving test (I passed second time!), I had a brand new car to drive on the day of my test and I'd never driven it.

The examiner took me on a short piece of dual carriageway and as I slowed to approach a roundabout I couldn't get it from 5th to 3rd and I panicked a bit. The examiner did it for me and so I obviously failed.

Even after I passed my test (can't remember there being any dual carriageway if I'm honest!), I had an immediate problem with roads with more than one lane and it's gone on from there and it's a weird fear of losing control. Apparently phobias are linked to a small incident but they are experienced when you are in a stressed frame of mind.

The other incident was immediately after passing my test. My ex had a Triumph Spitfire and we went out for a drive and he said I could have a go, no problem. I drove for about 1/2 mile and then tried to brake. The pedals in the Spitfire are offset (I didn't know) and I put my foot on the clutch. I started to panic the brakes had gone and turned off the road into a dirt track and just let the car roll to a stop. I didn't drive again for about 14 months when I was given a company car and I guess by then the fear was well and truly stuck in my head!!
