Well done for getting back in, good luck for the course.:cool:0

If you don't mind a few scratches the Ikea clearance section sometimes has the thing you want already built and at a cheaper price! Just make sure the desk fits into the car or else you'll have to unbuild it.0

I was gonna suggest the 10.99 desk at ikea too loads different colours and they're really good value!0 -
have a look on ebay for computer desks, particularly ikea ones , Ive seen them for quid plus, ( plus no temptation to buy other stuff you dont need) Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
:rotfl::rotfl:lol yeh ... actually I was considering a day out there ... but thinking about it now maybe not ... I went in Instore the other day and spent a futune on things which I hadnt needed until I saw them!!

buy some MDF! - measure out the space you have (you can make it thinner or wider if you want) and either buy some trestles or add some poles for legs - i've done both.
i now have a filing cabinet at one end and some crappy cupboard at the other with the MDF on top - it fits into the space i had perfectly!
i've painted mine silver at either end with a white middle! also sprayed the items 'holding' it up with silver.
the MDF was approx £20 - mine is really long though & i could have got a thinner piece of wood - mine's 1.5 " so the price is dependent on how much you want.
very easy! get some wood - you might find that you can buy a MDF board that doesn't need cutting to size which keeps the price down - you just take it home and put it on two items of furniture that are the same height (you dont' want a wonky table!) and you have a custom made desk!Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later date

lol... ikea (:o) do sell those very cheap or you local DIY shop will.
My last desk I put together involved four poles (diy shop) and these little metal things you screw to the desk and the poles fitted into them - they only cost a couple of quid for all four... I did make one for a friend that used only two legs and a piece of wood drilled to the wall at the back - but it was a small one and didn't have heavy stuff on it!
obviously added your own legs will require some work screwing them together ...
... the way to do it without any extra work would be the trestles (remember you can keep those and if you ever need a bigger desk then you just need to buy the wood again so you can reuse them at a later date/house etc) or using other furniture - do you not have small cupboards? I got a free 2 drawer filing cabinet from my work and the other cupbard was part of a cheap MFI desk (the desk part was way too small!)
freecycle sometimes have filing cabinets or small cupboards - obviously it means you have lots of drawers to keep all your stuff/papers/other stationary and looks nice and tidy!Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later date

 Sorry... XD is like a crazy happy face... Sorry... eventually one day the world will be able to understand my language
Yes, I have the Flarke desk that was linked above - cheap and seems to be standing fine (And I managed to build it myself woop - apart from putting the tray thingy on back to front hehe
)... I heart IKEA. Their £1.25 frying pans CANNOT be beaten (Just make sure you take no metal near them and only use wooden spoons or plastic utensils and they stay non stick if treated nicely - I've had my one for nearly a year and a half). Also their vanilla and strawberry candles... they make everywhere smell nice :-D

hi,
I've just been on the IKEA website with the view that I would order the stuff online and get it sent here then I checked the delivery charge - £35!!! So thats out... the other option is to go on the bus/train to the Manchester/Warrington one but I have no idea how far out it is from the centre ...
Alternatively, I guess I am going to have to try a DIY shop .... or a charity shop maybe ... I'm in Preston, does anyone happen to know any good ones, which are reasonably priced? as I've never been in one tbh.
