I've just received my Barclay card and the accompanying paperwork which shows my credit limit to be £1950. Having transfered in just short of the £5000 limit for a 0% account I now find that £3000 of this amount would be attracting 13.9% interest. I've been in touch with Customer Services to ask for the credit limit to be increased but they state that as I don't have a Barclays bank account I'm stuck with that amount.

So if you don't have Barclays account -
    [glow=red,2,300]beware![/glow]
I knew I shouldn't have trusted Barclays, they've always seemed to charge way over the odds on interest rates etc [when other company are reducing theirs] they're just a bunch of money grabbers. Having found the catch in the 'too good to be true offer' I have cancelled my account with immediate effect. >:(

    Hi JonW

Just last week transferred a balance from MBNA 0% card to RBS and applied for a Virgin card which has been accepted with a £7,500 credit limit.

Not sure how closely they monitor the range of cards from one supplier, but it must be worth applying.

    Current cards:-

    Halifax                              £3500   ***
    Cooperative     £3000
    Egg                  £1250
    Capital one      £6000
    Abbey               £3000
    Barclaycard       £1300

I am retired so my credit limits are quite low.
    Closed cards are:-
    Mint                    £7900

    Mbna                   £3500

***  My halifax 0% runs out next month but a very nice lady in Cardiff has arranged for an upgrade so I shall now benefit from  another 9 months of 0% balance transfers.

    Well I'm impressed!!
To be able to obtain that much credit whilst retired is very enclouraging.  I was was considering  reducing my work hours before I discovered sbt's, but realised that workig full time - plus state pension put me in a good  bargaining position, as I'm sure the lenders must take into account the ability to repay the minmum monthly payment. Egg limited me to £4000, but Sainsbury's wanted to know the credit limit on all the cards I had and have offerd me the sum total -although I don't owe anybody anything :-)
I'm very new to sbt's and trying to tread cautiously whilst maximising this facility before it disappears!
Perhaps the more experienced can tell me how far in advance of the 0% rate period coming to an end, did they begin to transfer to another 0% card ?
if i had known then what i know now

    Hi Luv-my-brass,

    Credit Limits
Barclaycard at 7,700, 0% for life
    Mint at 8,100
    BoS at 9,400
    Lloyds TSB at 7500
    Virgin at 6,500

All at 0% finishing at various times 04 and 05

Always find a new card a couple of months prior to the existing cards finish the 0% offer.
Always transfer the month before, then pay of any small residual amount on receipt of statement.
Not paid interest on a Credit Cards for 20 months.

Also have Liverpool Victoria Card for spending abroad, with spend just recently achieving upto a 1.5 euro exchange rate. Always pay this off in full or transfer to one of the 0% cards.

My next search will be in September, not sure whether I will run out of credit cards or the groups that support them.
Egg, Sainsbury, Capital One spring to mind.

All this after becoming a moneysavingexpert.com subscriber.

    Best of Luck

  • I've been looking at best buys & followed link to Capital One Platinum. You quote 3.9% for life of transfer. Capital One site is quoting 5.9%.
    :'(
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!
  • Capital One upped their intrest rate about 3 months ago however they are still sending out some direct mailings offering 3.9 or 4.9%. Also I had a flyer drop out of one of the Sunday suppliments (sorry cann't rember which one) offering 4.9%. I didn't take much notice as I've already got a Capial One card which I used as a low interest loan to buy a car.
Most things in life are easy it's just doing them well that's difficult !!!!!!!!!! :D:D
  • Barclaycard at 7,700, 0% for life
    :o:o:o
How on earth did you manage that???
I know they are doing a low % offer for life - but 0%!!!!
Haven't heard of that one. Looks like I'm going to have to give up my Barclay card to rejoin then????

Hello. I have an egg card in which I applied to pay for my driving lessons. There's still some money left over and I would like to transfer this money to my bank. I've never done this before and was wondering what the
    "reference/roll number" is? ???

I took out a Mint Card for the purposes of transferring an outstanding balance on an old card. I then used a cheqe to transfer the remaining balance of the credit limit to my savings account linked to my mortgage. The Mint interest free period expired at the beginning of October. I do not spend anything on this card. I just make the minimum repayment each month. Whilst looking for a new interest free balance transfer, I have come across the Lloyds TSB Advance card, offering interest free credit for balance transfers for 12 months. Does anyone have any comments on this card.
