My little boy (16m) has started getting eczema.
IS there anything anyone can recommend to launder his clothes in which might not irritate his skin.
Any help appreciated
Sarah

Hi, have you heard of soap nuts? There is a long thread on the OS board about them if I can find you a link.
They are much more moneysaving than any specially sensitive washing powder on the market, and they are better for the environment too.
Here it is:

This may be trial and error rather than hard fact! Fairy Non-Bio upset DDs skin, as did most other sensitive ones. We had to settle for Persil in the end - it was the only thing that would not upset her skin. And no conditioner at all.
She developed the condition about the same age, but now is 4 and has grown out of it. That and her milk intolerance.
Its not just washing clothes though. Don't put anything in his bath (but water!) and get some advice from your chemist/pharmacy about what to wash him in, body and hair. I had a heck of a problem with hair as she has curly hair, but couldn't use any conditioner!!0 -
I agree with the poster who said its trial and error... i had bad eczema and ariel non-biological was the only one my parents could use.0

My daughter is 16 months old and gets eczema, it suddenly flared up but we have changed nothing. We have always used Asda's colour care washing powder and asdas fab con. I have tried other products but nothing changes so have gone back to asdas own. We were given a big pot of cream from toe doctors which we were told would help ease it, but personally it takes a little of the redness away but nothing else.
I think sometimes nothing works no matter how hard you try it.Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
I found that Daz washing powder works for us, it is the only one that we can all use in our family!
Although i made the mistake of buying Daz liquid when it was on offer a few months ago and it bought dd's eczema up within hours.
I have tried all washing products but others can tend to make us itch, but again i can't use any fabric conditioners either.

Thanks everyone.
The docs has given me various creams and lotions to put on him but it has got worse since I changed the washing powder. I was using Fairy non bio so might have a go on that again and see if gets better.
Thanks0 -
If it has got worse since changing the washing powder then then normally is a sure sign of what is flaring it up.Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0

I suffer quite badly from eczema (I'm 20) I find that Daisy washing powder is the only thing I can use and own brand fab con. And as a bonus daisy is only £4 odd for a 30wash pack! Hope this helps.Total Debt start June 09 £11,083.03

hi
dont know if it helps but my dd (7 months) has this and the gp said it was caused by fairy (which apparently isnt sensitive at all)
i was shocked as i thought it would be gentle on her skin
its expensive but i use ecover (i got it in tesco) its too early to say if its a complete success but was recommended by gp
her other suggestion was laundry balls from lakeland which im going to try if ecover doesnt clear it up

Hi,
I found it was trial and error - with dd1 she reacted to one brand then ds1 came along and reacted to the brand dd1 was okay with
Thankfully they have grown out of it and dd2 has no problems.
We have for the past couple of years used Ecover which seems to be really mild - might be worth a try? Recently on 3for2 @ Sainsbury's - the only place I have found that does special offers on ecover - I think we are stocked up until Christmas
Also (I don't want to teach my granny how to suck eggs, but...) How much do you dose your wash-load with - the guidelines on the packets are always (imo) way over the top. We are in a soft water area anyway but I normally use around a third of the amount recommended and our clothes are still cleanIf you can still see foam in the washload near the end (or in the rubber seal once finished) then it may be that there is too much powder/liquid and it isn't all getting rinsed out.
I hope it doesn't take too long to find something that works for your ds, good luck.0
