  • We use Surcare powder and Conditioner - these both have reduced the flair up's our daughter has.

Both are available in supermarkets at similar prices to the other well known brands.

On the cream front we use doublebase, available on prescription and over the counter. The good thing about this is that the rest of the family can use it too.
  • On the washing question, I've had eczema all my life and have found that there are lots of things that aggravate it, but sometimes NOT using any washing powder at all does make a difference. For example on bedding, I use a hot wash with no powder at all, just a few drops of essential oil (lavender and chamomile is nice and calming) in the fabric conditioner slot. It comes up perfectly clean but with no soap residue that might irritate me (seems to happen more in warm weather as well if that helps).

a lot of products do not wash out of the fabric - i am in favour of ecover as it is one of the few that does not cause any skin irritation. failing that, have you thought of laundry balls? they are the only solution that does not use any soap powder, natural derivative or not. not sure that they are great for stains or keeping your whites whiter than white, but will not cause the fabrics to be full of soap suds...

For my eczema - after trial and error - NEVER Bold, NEVER Lenor!

I use persil non-bio or aerial non-bio and Comfort Pure conditioner.

When I my eczema was worse we were told not to use a water economy setting on the washing machine as it didn't rinse out the residue enough - you could always try an extra rinse if you are having problems.

Also, cotton bedding is best (100% cotton if you can) and cotton bedclothes too. This makes a big difference for me ;) In fact the more natural fibers you can wear the better - it's the man made ones that don't let your skin breathe and can cause additional itching which makes things worse.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Having a nightmare at the moment as DS1s hands are red raw and pus-sy; poor little thing, spent about an hour down the Doctors today, they've given him antibiotics and a hydrocortisone cream, which we've managed for so long without but I don't think we can avoid this time; he's quite upset as his mates at school have been asking him all about them, so I think we need to prepare a little talk for show and tell. Poor little chap.

  • Sounds a bit mental but have been a nanny for some years and had a couple of children with eczema and this has really helped. Grab a good handful of plain porridge oats, wrap them in a muslin cloth and hold under running bath water. Softens the water up and in turn softens skin. Cheap as chips too!!
