Thinking about adopting a greyhound

Wow Lola really does look like Throp, he also does that poor puppy face when he doesn't want to get out of bed. Wonder if their related, Top Honcho & Frightful Flash seem to throw a lot of throp lookalikes.

Hope the homecheck goes well Tyler and Millie comes homes soon. We use chopped hotdog sausages for dog training and they go down very well, just hope Millie isn't grey x croc like Throp:rotfl: I also just use a handfull of kibble/dry food as mine tend to be happy with anything edible.
I'm loving everyones grey and hairy hound pics :T0 -
Top Honcho is Lola's grandfather, on her dad's side. And in fact I have Lola's half brother here too. Top Honcho was a very busy boy with over 9000 offspring!0

Its nice having a bit of family connectionwhere's the pics of him? Top Honcho certainly was a busy boy! I once looked through rehoming kennel dogs pedigrees and the majority had Top Honcho in there, somewhere.
Premier Fantasy looks like he might have a lot of offspring too as he's already got 1100 noted on GD which doesn't have all the dogs on. The boys got to meet their Half sister when she went into rehoming kennels a while back, she looked very much like her daddy http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?d=beachwood+lacey0 -

DH spends hours pouring over that website - it seems when you get a greyhound you may also get a whole new hobby!0 -
Oh they are beautiful dogs.
i tol dbf if we ever moved to a house (we are currently in a flat) that I would love to adopt a greyhound - only problem i have a small furry by the name of Bruno (JRT) and id be worried with teh chasing issues but I guess if we had a meet and greet with one then they may get on etc. I did read that some ex race dogs are socialised enough that they get on with small furries - would lvoe one - stunning dogs
was the home visit today???? how did it go????Time to find me again0 -

You are right to be worried Sammy
Mr Ratty's Story
More seriously, some greyhounds are fine with small furries and some aren't.

Awwwww.........................I was expecting soem horrible 'my greyhounds mawled my dog' atricle - how cute the 'savage smothering pictures' are. (please read the article before any  comments!)
I think once we move into a house (we are on a waiting list) it will be a case of visiting a rescue and having several visits with Bruno (our jack) that way they we can see how they cope with him about etc, and will hopefully get to know him as part of the family as well before we look to rehome them and even then i dare say we will be very wary of them together for a while. Thinking an older dog would be a better choice greyhoud wise whereas a younger dog would just be 'fresh from the track/furry chasing' whereas an older dog has had time to chill and adapt. I love these dogs for their somewhat lazy laid back nature - Bruno is totally hyper 99.9% of the time and at 7 years old shows no signs of slowing down so a pooch who just chills out would be ideal for us (hence the preference of an older dog)Time to find me again0 -

I absolutely adore the second from last photo
It might be an idea to get in contact with rescues like greyhound gap who foster their dogs rather than kennel them, fosterers get to know the dogs really well and should be able to say if they get on well with other dogs.
There are rumours that there are even cat friendly greyhounds (not mine unfortunately)

oh no cats here so not a worry like i said just a JRT and a 4 year old. but then again my 4 year old absolutely adores all dogs and has been sat lookign at the greyhound rescue site with me and going
' aw.................cutchy cutchy doggies'. hes definately smitten with every animal going bar spiders. We belong to 3 rescues lists - Hope rescue (rescues strays in south wales and rehomes them) greyhound rescue south wales and llanelli dogs home - all of which are local to us. We also have an NCDL and an RSCA on our doorsteps too but id rather go to a smalelr rescue to give them the support and they are jsut as good with rehoming their dogs as a larger rescues and being smaller and lesser known they have more 1 on 1 with the dogs tooTime to find me again0 -

My friend's rehomed ex racer couldn't care less about cats, even the ones next door who treat his garden as their own !.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
