OP i am glad things are looking a bit brighter now :)

this thread brought a tear to my eye!
its such a worry when they start secondary,i was worried loads about my son ( now yr 8) as he is quite shy /sensitive etc and has Dyspraxia

but he coped well and has made lots of ( new ) friends

your daughter will feel settled soon i am sure,it just takes some longer than others.Going to a new school without old friends must be so hard :(

    xx
  • Hope you don't mind me posting, I have just registered especially so I could reply as your post really struck a chord with me (I even got that all familiar bad feeling that I had when I started high school!)

I was exactly the same as your daughter, cried every day, couldn't find anyone that I clicked with and just found the whole experience really frightening. I used to go to a mentoring thing at lunchtimes aswell.

I then went to a netball practice and that was what changed things for me, I met some friends there and settled in and ended up in the 'popular' gang!

I really feel for your daughter as it is a tough time. It helped me when my parents broke the day down for me, as in 'so you will go to your first lesson, then you have netball' etc as it seemed more manageable. And to remind me that everyone is probably feeling the same way deep down.

It will pass, and you are doing all the right things.

Hope you don't mind me posting. She will be fine, as will you. Says a 26 year old who still feels for those kids on their way to school!

I'm sure it will get better for your daughter. My daughter also started high school in sept, she isn't with many of her frinds for some lessons and found this very hard, but she has made some lovely new friends.
She goes to school fine but comes home saying school is "allright" which is slightly worrying as she doesn't seem to have had a "good" day yet! She loved primary school and hated having time off. She is also meant to have mentoring once a week (due to dyspraxia) but it hasn't started yet!

I'm sure your daughter will be happy soon.
