I have to say I agree with Aliasojo regarding picking up and posting items to other MSE users.
I have done this a number of times for people (mostly those in Scotland funnily enough) and I have no problems with running around - have actually quite enjoyed it and others have done favours for me as well.
My biggest 'expense' was going to Oxford - a 118 mile round trip - just to pick up an Airhog plane for SDL118. BUT - I took my grandaughter, made a day out of it and it was great. I didn't have to do it, but the pleasure I receive from enabling my 'friends' on this site to pick up the items they want makes it all worth while ;D
The only time I add on costs is to cover postage and then I only ask for the costs paid. I feel sure that the majority of MSE users take the same view.0 -
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I appreciate the sentiments behind Benjis' suggestion, but although it isn't perfect I think this thread has evolved into most of that already.
I know if I had something reserved in Cardiff I would post, but also pm Ben500 for help, any 'girly' items I'd hope MarkR hadn't bought 'em all
In fact, reading Benjis' post I initially thought it was an interesting idea, but I think the chaotic element of this bargain hunt has been a lot of the reason why this thread is so addictive.
I spend a lot of time on the 'grabbit' forum and the Argos thread is unique. I do think that precedents are being set all the time in here, and I was going to suggest we formulate some guidelines/instructions to help people:-
(a) Get the most out of this/next Argos thread.
(b) Perhaps save newbies (like me) testing the sanity and patience of the regulars/notsos (Aliasojo).
I do wish there was a way to prevent 'sharks' from profiteering but the only thing I could think of along those lines was by making any E-bay i.d.'s known to the site moderators, but I don't think that would be workable either.
You can spend your time alone re digesting past regrets,
Or you can come to terms and realize you're the only one who can forgive yourself.
Makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

Moi? ::) I'm the patron saint of patience.
And you got to stay 'cos you made us laugh. ;DI do wish there was a way to prevent 'sharks' from profiteering but the only thing I could think of along those lines was by making any E-bay i.d.'s known to the site moderators, but I don't think that would be workable either.
I'm also not convinced eBay is the whole problem. :-/Herman - MP for all!0 -
I understand where you are coming from ben.
But in my opinion i would prefer that the status quo remained as your proposals could be open to abuse and if bulky items were ordered it might be totally unpractical!
Also this is a money saving site not one which could be used as a Money Earner!!!
No offence!!0 -
have to agree with all the above negative replies to benji's post. It would eventually change the site and the type of people who use it.
Trust and friendship is a valuable thing,
abuse and you lose it!!
Sorry Benji, just my opinion.0 -

I aren't against E-bay, but using MSE has shown me a 'darker' side that I didn't notice existed.
Mind you those hurtful comments about my Vale have shown there's a 'dark side' on here too.
(Please imagine a smiley trying to give the 'evil eye')
>:( 4-0. I ask you

Hi all.I agree things should be left as they are.I have a network of colleagues at work who do not have pcs but are able to persue the hidden treasures on the strength of a photocopied set of codes. I guess there are many unknowns to this site.I prefer t spread the gospel in this way rather than being a foot soldier(I do have a disability however and would feel low having to say sorry to a request to collect n post).
In the meantime Xmas greetings to all cos youve made a good few people round here happy already!0 -
Add another vote to leave it as it is!
Can see where you are coming from too Benji and fair comment sharing your thoughts, I was after a mower down south, and Geogrophy not being my strong point (cant be an expert in goldy bluey thingys and geography!) naturaly I asked in scotland 1st for it to be picked up for me ;D then as advised posted a request and Dolpinl volunteered her sister to get it for me (You r both fantastic!), I would hate someone to of felt obliged to get it just cos they are near and on "the list" for that store much better informley and volunteered. Feels realy good to of helped someone get something and makes a change from this "greedy little world" we live in (yep been playing my Shania twaine cd again) Ive spoken to/ messaged some realy nice people due to this thread. SO LEAVE IT AS IT IS much better informal.
Dont worry Valiant my wifey does Avon so have a house full of girly things, so I can leave all some of the girly stuff for youNope.... Still cant think of owt interesting to put here.0 -
Have to say that I am more than willing to pay for and send stuff to people on a casual basis ;D. If someone posts that they have something reserved in a store near me then I will endeavour to get it for them ;D. (although they will have to be quick to beat me to it
) I think we dont need an organised network for that, just some top people (which we have 8) ) just post and I will do my best.
Just my thoughts anyway
Many thanks to Blackpongo as well for today :-*Nice to save.0
