Did anyone ever buy the Visiq Facial Sauna (thingy  ;))? 440/3050 - £2.37

I finally tracked one down but I'm not sure how heavy it is, so I don't know if it's worth asking for help in getting in picked up or not.  :-/

It may be that the cost of postage outweighs the saving?

    Anyone any idea?

If it's the same one that I've had for a wee while, it's quite small and is as light as a feather (well - almost). I didn't, however, buy it out of Argos.

Good to see us males taking care of our skin :-* in time for all the Xmas kisses from the lovely ladies on here!

    ARGOS 2 - JAN/FEB 2005 (OR WHENEVER!)

We've become a right little community here on ACSM haven't we?

And in a month or two it will all start again ;D

Now I know there have been loads of people out there who have willingly offered to pick stuff up for other people - I've both helped and benefited myself. Would it be worth setting up a list of usernames who are willing to pick stuff up from particular stores to simplify the matter? I guess Scotland would be pretty much covered ;).

I'd be willing to administer it and would suggest the following rules....
    • Even if you're on the list, you're not obliged to agree to pick something up.
    • Collector can insist payment is sent before collecting - therefore PayPal or Bank Transfer would become favoured options.
    • The cost would be the cost of the item, plus the postage, plus a small amount to cover costs. Again the collector has the choice on this but I'd suggest 10% with a maximum of a fiver.

I'd set up some sort of (secure) easy access method so anyone who wants contact can do so without going through me. I'll not use usernames as they may be changing soon if Martin moves away from YaBB.

If you're interested (no obligation) PM me with
    • your real email
    • Your local store
    • Details of any other stores you might be willing to do (like a reserve list :))

    No worries keithscott1. ;D

In that case, is there anyone who could pick up a light item from Chichester for me please?

I have reserved the facial sauna thingy, and before any of you start taking the mick......it's not to use to make myself pretty ::) it's to use as a steamer for my 5 year old who regularly has trouble with blocked tubes.

I figured this would make it easier for her rather than a basin and towel. :-/

Anyway please pm me if there's anyone who could help.

    Thanks peeps. ;D

I might hold an unpopular view here, but I don't think there is a need for Benji's suggestion.  :-/

As pointed out, we HAVE become a little community and I think we are fine as we are.

At present, we willingly offer to help on a friendly footing, I really don't see the need to turn it into a more business like arrangement.

I also don't agree with the 'small amount to cover costs' bit. Don't get me wrong, I would hate for anyone to be out of pocket on my behalf but most people will happily absorb small costs like parking etc in their willingness to help out. I think making this a stipulation is sending the wrong message and takes the emphasis away from 'friendly'. Of course if someone wanted me to cover their costs and I really wanted the item picked up, then I would happily do it, but  making this a condition will only turn us into pennypinchers.

Also who is to say what is a fair amount for 'costs'? Hardly anyone will have a completely accurate idea of petrol cost for example.

My local Argos is a 55 mile round trip but I am happy to pick up freely if I am able.

I certainly don't want to go down the route of telling people I will only pick up for them if they pay my petrol. I think if I did that it would say more about me as a person than anything else.

If I did not want to help, I would not offer.

If I could not afford to help, I would not offer.

BUT I understand that there will be peeps who do not agree with me. And to them, I say:

    :P

Only kidding, we all have our own opinions.  ;D

Edit: I've just re-read what I've written and I want to emphasise the fact that I'm not trying to be tight, I promise.  ;) I am more than happy to pay expenses if asked, I just think that we will lose the friendliness of this site if we go down the businesslike route that Benji suggests.

2nd Edit: Sorry Benji, I'm not trying to be argumentative here, but I feel really strongly that this is wrong.

Even if you're on the list, you're not obliged to agree to pick something up.

Perhaps people may not be obligated, but many will feel bad at turning down a request for help. Better to let people opt in rather than opt out.

Collector can insist payment is sent before collecting - therefore PayPal or Bank Transfer would become favoured options.

People are more than able to decide which is the best way to handle the transaction themselves, every situation is different and one way will not suit all.

The cost would be the cost of the item, plus the postage, plus a small amount to cover costs. Again the collector has the choice on this but I'd suggest 10% with a maximum of a fiver.

So, if a small item being picked up cost £100 for example and the person picking up incurred an 80p bus fare, then going by your suggestion, we would be paying that person £4.20, mainly for their time.

I think you may have missed the point of this site. It, and we, are here to help one another, not to charge for our time.

If people choose to agree to paying costs between themselves, then that is another matter, but having it as a 'policy' for want of a better word, goes against the ethos of this site.

I apologise for ranting somewhat, I mean no offence to you Benji, it's just something I feel strongly about. :-/
