  • Exactly. Debt is a very sensitive subject and comments like that can be deeply hurtful and there really is no need.

  • yes, please ignore sandy beech's comments - coming out of the other side of depression is a much larger issue than just 'get off your backside and get a job'.

    You sound like you are making great strides - it takes time to put it into place but if you keep posting everyone will help.

    WOW - Just popped in to see if I had a reply, didn't expect a forum war ;)

    @sandy beech

    Looks like you're trying to give me a 'wake up call'. Unfortunatley I don't need a wake up call regarding work. I am not someone who has avoided work all my life, sponged off the governement, etc. I have worked continuously for the last 15yrs, last 10 in IT/Project Management, I finished work due to illness. I spend all day everyday working towards the day when I can return to work, preferably in a job (or self employment) where I can be happy, and at the very least healthy. I am learning a new skill set and hope that within a few months I will be in a position to start work, maybe sooner. I'm quite sure I never said anywhere in my OP that I sit around drinking and smoking all day, I don't.... though if someone were willing to pay me :rolleyes:

    @Ames

    Thanks for the update regarding IB, I figured as much. Not too worried though. One of my biggest fears when I felt like I was being forced back into work too soon, was that I would need to jump back into a highly paid job to be able to pay the bills and would likely 'crack' again soon. Now that I have met you guys n girls this is becoming less of an issue each day. If I can continue to reduce outgoings and successfully get a dmp in place I will no longer have to look for only high paying high pressure jobs, I can look for healthier options.

    Thanks for your kind comments, encouragement, understanding and defending me :T . It sounds like at least two of you know exactly the position I'm in, possibly from personal experience.
    Viewing this forum has been a real eye-opener for me. I have been a visitor on MSE for some time but never implemented the advice given (apart from some half-a**ed 0% CC transferring), I feel so much more relaxed now I am dealing with my debt and can see some light over the horizon. So I'll say it again, THANK YOU ALL for your ongoing help, it is MUCH APPRECIATED!!:beer:

    Been putting it off a bit today but must call cccs soon, will report back.

    Hi

    Glad it is working for you.

    It is amzing what Dfw can do for you once you let it.
    If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • I know exactly the position you've been in - I became very ill through how I was being treated at work to the point I had some kind of breakdown. After leaving it took me nearly a year to have the courage to go back into the most basic of admin jobs (after being a senior manager for many years) and also put the rest of my life back together again.

    I found that the hardest part was being brave enough to go back out there - in every sense of the word, but once I did, it slowly got better and I'm now (6 months on from starting my job) looking to go back up the ladder - something this time last year I couldn't have contemplated.

    you'll get there, just take one day at a time.

    Thanks RAS. DFW has been a great inspiration so far.

    Burlesque Babe: Almost like you read my mind, that is exactly how it is. I have been starting to gradually feel better over the last few months and am hoping that addressing my debts will allow me to return to work gradually (initially part-time maybe) without all the debt worry.

    Just phoned cccs but wasn't quite ready. I hadn't updated my Debt Remedy and still have some things to sort out so they suggested calling back when I have it sorted.

    Will keep you all updated.

    Thanks,

    Dack

    Quick update....

    BT costs me £31.50 monthly DD (a little high as actual calls + rental is about £24 each month - £11.95 of which was rental for free evening and weekend calls).

    Worked through Martins article and settled on the following changes:

    Join up for BT's unlimited anytime for 12 months at £4.95 mth + std rental of £10.50 mth, total of £15.45. Have accordingly reduced DD to £16 mth.

    Joined up for 18185 override provider to use for all non 01,02,0800 numbers (these are free with BT under above plan). So 18185 will cover all mobile calls and 0845, 0870, etc. My estimate, based on previous bills, is that this will cost me around £2 month (maybe more when I no longer have the mobile).

    So in all, I have cheaper mobile calls (6p/min instead of BT's 12p/min!), unlimited anytime landline calls instead of evenings and weekends only, and a reduced mobile rate with BT (7.5p/min I think) in case someone forgets the 18185.

    All this for £18, another £13.50 shaved of my SOA. Cheaper and better :T .

    I'm starting to really love this site. If I had this knowledge a few years ago, and the inclination to apply it, I would not be in the situation I am now and would probably own a yacht!

    This guy is da man! :money: You lot too of course ;)

    Dack
