dack, bankruptcy must be avoided, please contact the CCCS and in the meantime only offer your creditor token payments of a £1.00 or so.

How long will the mortgage insurance company continue to pay your interest on your mortgage for?

Do you have any bank charges/credit card charges, if so, look at the reclaim £1000's tab at the top and start proceedings.

    Hi Merlot,
Will contact cccs first thing Monday, hopefully will have a slightly better SOA by then too. Was intending to contact them today but had to attend a funeral and my head wasn't in the right place for the rest of the day.

Not sure regarding the mortgage but I do have to see their doctor next Friday so should hear something shortly after that. They are actually paying the full mortgage cost each month (not just interest), £300 included in SOA as other income.

I will get to the charges thing asap but tbh I don't think there will be much. I have religiously paid the minimum :o each month on everything but unfortunately rarely overpaid.

    Thanks,

    Dack
  • Dack, just thinking longer term, obviously your creditors are going to start contacting you about paying reduced amounts on your payments to them.

Some of these will sell your debts to debt collection agencies who will hound you to death and tell you so many lies about what they can do.

it may be worthwhile changing your phone number if you can? if your up to it you can just tell them to go and whistle on the phone

Most companies offer a dual fuel discount so you could be losing out by being seperate. make sure you keep an eye on the meter readings while you are being swapped about as you could end up undercharged or overcharged. Ask about fixed tariffs.

we were offered a meter last year & there was a years trial where we could go back to rates at the end if we wanted - might be worth an ask.

SOA = Statement of Affairs (to find a SOA Calculator, google 'make sense of cards' & click on calculators tab > Statement of Affairs)

    Hi

Looks like a CCCS job to me. Get the SOA into line and if your missus goes out to work and things are hard, then look at going interest only for a while on the mortgage?
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

chilli_dog: Thanks for the suggestion, it had crossed my mind too but gonna keep the same phone number for now at least. Are there any phone companies that include the caller display function for free (what I mean is so I could have the incoming number displayed before I pick the phone up)?

ajaney: I looked last night on quidco/uswitch and it seems I could save. My estimates were rough but uswitch said changing to British Gas Click Energy 5 (dual fuel) would save me around £400 a year!!! Think I can get an extra £40 cashback from Quidco too :) Are there any reasons you know of why I shouldn't choose this tariff? Would I have to pay any penalty to my current suppliers as I switched very recently on both (pushy door to door salesmen, swalec and npower)? Thanks.

RAS: Great advice thanks RAS. I was wondering how we would manage if wife starts work (and my mortgage insurance payouts stop).

Will report back as things progress, thanks again all
