Orchid phone call receiver a waste of time

yet another bill through from BT. The orchid system lets calls through and seems to deprogramme itself or something. also the company who sells this do not offer any good customer service. i woudl not recommend it. it seems a lot of programming to organise for nothing.

HMMMM ! this thread should be interesting !
  • Well I've always found their support very friendly and helpful. Have had problems but that was mainly down to user error. Since upgrading to a V4+ with it's own power supply my orchid hasn't dropped a beat.
Got it preprogrammed with the Heinz programme http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=356458 and it never fails.

Orchids can't 'deprogramme' (sic) themselves but, if the telephone line is disconnected or the line voltage drops, the day/time settings can be lost and, if you use time/day routing rules (as most users do), calls can be routed incorrectly as a result until the clock is corrected.

That is usually the problem when people report, "It doesn't work properly" or the like.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

My V4 dialler still suffers from the odd failed routing, usually the first call after I have been away for one week or more.

Orchid customer service has always been very good with my support requests.

Deals, I am the one who maintains 'the Heinz program' - which numerous Orchid owners use so that they don't have to do the programming themselves (I make alterations when necessary and registered users just have to 'force home' to pick up the revised program).

It's based on users having a BT landline, a CPS calls provider giving free evening and weekend UK 01/02/03 calls (like Martin, I recommend Primus Saver Option 2) and an account with www.18185.co.uk

Would joining the group of registered users solve your problem?

  • My wife was keen to buy this low radiation phone but I could not find positive reviews of it on the web.
Its worst fault is it Rings up to 4 times when you Hang-Up the last call, indicating it is ringing out a new number which is very disconcerting to say the least.
This was relayed back to their office who said
A.'You need to speak to Henry who has just popped out'.
    Q. 'Then who are you?'
A.'I'm just the receptionist, taking messages!'
Q.'My wife called last week and was told the same. How many people are working here?'
    A. 'You need Henry or John - I don't have their phone number'
    Q. 'Can you ask them to ring me?'
So much for Customer Service - I am about to return the phone if nothing happens.

Are you using the CWClient software? Have you created a new table for routing other than the one included called Get Started? If so you must explicitly select the table for the dialler to use. These are the instructions for the dialler so may be different for the phone. In particular, for step 2 you need to enter, I believe Product > 0 then clicking Add and Apply.

After clicking on Product do the following:
    1. Click "Search"
    2. Enter "Product" "=" "11" in the top three drop down boxes then click "Apply"
    3. Double click your dialler in the list that appears
    4. Click on the "Change..." button next to the "New Routing Table" field in the bottom right corner
    5. Select your newly programmed routing table from the drop down box and click OK
    6. Click Update at the top
    7. Update your dialler by lifting a receiver connected to it and dialling ***12#4567890*3 and putting the receiver down immediately.
    8. Make sure the dialler light flashes continuously for more than 60 seconds
    9. Finally, once this is done, double click your dialler again in the list and ensure that the table under "Active Routing Table" and "New Routing Table" are the same. If not, repeat steps 7-9.
    Hope this helps.

OAP, you are talking about a different Orchid. This thread is about an orchid dialler, not a low radiation teleophone.
