Tesco card reader

  • Tesco (although I think this still being run by RBS Natwest for now) seem crazy if they think this is a reasonable way to roll out the use of card readers - without telling people until they need them.
The staff seem confused about the what/when/why of the procedures. I assume they are being treated as mushrooms by their management. They have also reset my security (with no reason) to add a further delay.

I don't trust banks that make more than one mistake - so am closing the account.

The same thing happened to me. After ordering the card reader, they reset my security which meant I didn't have access to my money for two weeks!

In the end, I had to borrow money from my mum.

I'm assuming everyone has their card readers now. I think Tesco have a glut of them.

After waiting 36 days mine eventually arrived last Tuesday by special delivery. This morning three more arrived by normal mail, one more for me and two for OH. Anyone still waiting - I have spares :rotfl:

Mine arrived this morning by normal mail, though I haven't tried it yet.

    No not me.

At least I do have my Nationwide card reader.

    Yep me.
  • Mine arrived on Saturday. I wasn't very impressed with the 5 layers of packaging they felt the need to protect a pretty robust device.

Still no sign of a card yet. And sending me a reader is a waste of time, because I have readers from other banks. The trouble being that there's no way to say 'let me sign up for the card reader service' without them sending you a reader.

I believe the Tesco card reader allows you to change the pin - I couldn't find a way of doing this with my Nationwide card reader.

I've finally got my registration number which means I can log on, but like everyone else on here, I can't make any transfers to other accounts without the card reader (now ordered). After ordering this though, I have discovered that the card I have doesn't have a chip on it. It looks a bit like a clubcard with only a magnetic strip on the back as a means of data storage. Is everyone elses card like this? Or have Tesco made a big booboo and sent me the wrong kind of card?

Yes it should have a chip.
Here is my very plain looking card from last year. They may have changed the look of them by now.

Mine has a chip on it - can't see how it would work in the card reader without a chip.

You say you just ordered the card reader - why did you have the card? I didn't have a card until I ordered the card reader.
